Why you'll love this trip
  • Dubrovnik's charms reach far beyond the famed beautiful city walls. Discover the undisputed jewel of the Dalmatian Coast, and perhaps cruise to Lokrum Island where a botanical garden, Benedictine monastery, and excellent swimming spots await.
  • Indulge in specialty foods, local wine and some tranquil swimming spots on the island of Korcula – a quiet escape full of vineyards, olive groves and sleepy villages.
  • Spend a full day exploring the green island of Mljet – with its small seaside villages, lush national park trails, shimmering waters and largely untouched environment, you’ll never want to leave!
  • Hvar Island seems to have it all: Renaissance architecture, beautiful beaches, lush green landscapes and excellent Dalmatian cuisine.
  • Split is a haven of relaxation and culture. Unwind with a walk along the waterfront promenade and take time to explore the impressive ruins of Diocletian's Palace.

Is this trip right for you?
  • Please be aware that the Croatian coast is very hilly and mountainous, which means lots & lots of steps are an inherent feature of the landscape. You will have to be able to easily lift your luggage and carry it up and down stairs and inclines. Also, stone streets become very slippery when wet. Some people may find Croatia's topography very demanding.
  • Summer temperatures can be extreme in many of the regions visited (over 40°C), which can be uncomfortable. It’s important to use sun protection, wear layers to combat the heat and drink plenty of water. Additionally, please be aware that July, August and the first half of September is high season along the Croatian coast, which means that the local infrastructure is under a lot of pressure with a lot of people in the towns we visit. Please carefully consider the time of the year you wish to travel and your suitability to that season.
  • Hotels in Europe often don't have double beds, but rather two single beds that can be pushed together.
  • Please note that on the islands of Korcula and Hvar we are staying in private apartments that locals rent out during the summer months. These are located in various buildings spread across town, but all are within a 15-minute walk of the main square. The apartments are not hotels, which means there's no reception, room service or daily cleaning service, no televisions or washing machines, but plenty of charm. They differ in layout and facilities, can vary in size and most don't have air-conditioning and wi-fi. This is the most effective way of staying in the centre of town. Please also note that individual rooms are allocated on a same gender twin share basis, however the apartments itself are allocated on a mixed gender basis, which means you will be sharing a two, or three room apartment with the other members of the group. We try to use apartments with rooms that include private facilities. In rare occasions, apartments may only have one bathroom to be shared between the group members staying in the same apartment and in this case, if you've booked a single supplement, you'll be allocated a single room, but you'll share the bathroom with the group.
  • If you have more time to explore the region you can extend your trip by continuing your travels to Bled in Slovenia, and exploring more of the Croatian Coast. Check out our trip 'Dubrovnik to Bled' (trip code ZMSUC). Alternatively stay in the region to explore more of Dalmatia with our longer 'Highlights of Dalmatia' trip (trip code ZLSOC). Most departure dates are designed to create this perfect combination trip.
  • On this trip you must pack as lightly as possible because you will be expected to carry your own bag and although you won't be required to walk long distances with your luggage (max 30 minutes), we strongly recommend keeping the weight between 15kg / 33lb. Most travellers carry their luggage in a backpack, although an overnight bag with a shoulder strap would suffice if you travel lightly. Smaller bags or backpacks with wheels are convenient although we recommend your bag has carry straps to accommodate the cobbled streets, uneven surfaces, stairs and steps you are likely to encounter while carrying your luggage. You'll also need a day pack/bag to carry water and a camera etc for day trips.

The trip was an intro into Croatia. I was a little nervous, firstly because I have never set foot into Croatia and secondly, going solo with a small group of 7 strangers seems a daunting task. However, all my worries disappear after our first night gatherings in a bar next to the hotel. It turns out that all the group members were all singles, except one newly married couple from Australia. As a small group of 8 (inc Dinko our tour leader) it was the prefect size. Our group have the best mix of age, work / travel experience and culture to make the trip much more enjoyable, we have laughers from morning to night The vibe was unbelieable! and the best was Dinko, who made it possible. I highly recommend this trip for people who are still undecided.

Our ‘Explore Croatia’ tour was an incredible experience. We were able to enjoy so many beautiful places in Croatia including Dubrovnik, Mljet, Korcula, Hvar and Split. In each location we had set activities and free time. Our fantastic tour guide Dinko made sure that we were always enjoying ourselves and making the most of our time. He was so knowledgeable and informative, we learnt so much about the locations we visited. I highly recommend this tour, and any tour that Dinko runs! Such amazing memories to last a lifetime. Thanks Intrepid! And most of all, Thanks Dinko!!!!

While the itinaries provide spare time, you are encouraged to be a sheep and tag along to all the activities together. Intrepid used to be value for money, now they are expensive and similar to other tourism companies. You are made to feel unwelcome if you do not partake in everything like a sheep

A fantastic week spent exploring the Croatian coastline. Our guide, Dora, made it a great experience with excellent knowledge of the area and awesome restaurant recommendations. The full day boat trip from Hvar was a particular highlight.
