Mary Novakovich has been writing about travel for more than 25 years, and it's no surprise that she focuses a lot on the Balkans, thanks to her Serbian parents who were born in Croatia. She even wrote a book on the region, My Family and Other Enemies: Life and Travels in Croatia's Hinterland.
