Day 1 Dakar

Welcome to West Africa! Begin this epic adventure in Senegal’s sunny capital.

Days 2-3 St. Louis

Meander along the charming colonial streets of historic St. Louis.

Days 4-5 Toubakouta/Sine-Saloum Delta

Look for flamingos, pelicans, herons, gulls, terns, egrets and avocets on a pirogue trip through the winding waterways of the Sine-Saloum Delta.

Days 6-7 Tendaba/Kiang West National Park

The largest national park in The Gambia, Kiang West encompasses deciduous woodlands, sweeping savannas and mangrove creeks. Keep your eyes peeled for otters, antelopes, hyenas and warthogs as we journey up the Gambia River into the wild surrounds.

Days 8-10 Cap Skirring

Relax on the picturesque palm-fringed beaches of Cap Skirring. Those feeling energetic might want to head out for a swim, jump on a quad bike or do a spot of fishing.

Days 11-12 Bissau

Soak up the carefree vibe of Bissau, Guinea-Bissau's character-packed capital. Stroll the city streets and admire Portuguese-style buildings - remnants of the city’s colonial origins.

Days 13-15 Bush Camp

Journey through true African wilderness en route to Labe. Camp under canvas near remote Kandika and in the stunning countryside beyond Seriba.

Days 16-17 Fouta Djallon

Explore the magnificent Guinean highlands, better known as Fouta Djallon. Hike out to hidden waterfalls, admire the ‘Pont de Piedre’ and make a splash in unspoilt natural pools.

Day 18 Mamou

Leave the lush landscape of Fouta Djallon behind and head south to the town of Mamou. We’ll try to stay in a local guesthouse tonight.

Day 19 Bush Camp

Continue the drive south through Guinea’s wild, sprawling landscape. Enjoy another night under the stars in a bush camp.

Days 20-21 Bureh Beach

Cross the border into Sierra Leone and head for the coast. Enjoy a couple of days chilling out on the sandy shores of Bureh Beach.

Days 22-23 Freetown

With its rich history, stunning scenery and vibrant city centre, Sierra Leone’s charismatic capital has more than a few tricks up its sleeve. Meander around the city streets or head out to the nearby hills for some awesome views of the city.

Days 24-26 Bureh Beach

Venture back to the beach for some more chill out time.

Days 27-28 Tiwai Island Sanctuary

Spend a couple of nights camped out on platforms in the middle of the Tiwai Island Sanctuary. Search for turtles, monkeys and pygmy hippos on canoe and walking tours.

Days 29-30 Bush Camp/Kabala

Visit the small town of Kabala, famous for its particular brand of Ronko cloth dyeing.

Days 31-32 Bush Camp/Faranah

Veer right off the beaten track for some real overlanding travel from Sierra Leone into neighbouring Guinea.

Day 33 Gueckedou

Travel through the lush tropical landscape towards Guinee Forestiere.

Days 34-35 Guinee Forestiere

Explore the densely forested mountain terrain of Guinee Forestiere. Visit remote villages, learn about the endemic flora and fauna on treks across the savanna and track elephants.

Days 36-37 Bush Camp

Head across the Cote d’Ivoire border and onto the town of Odienne. Home to a stately mosque and backed by the craggy mountain range of Den Ke Le Massif, this is a great introduction to the next nation on our route.

Days 38-39 Korhogo

Get ready to haggle hard for the carved wooden sculptures and decorative woven cloth that are the cultural pride of Korhogo.

Days 40-41 Yamoussoukro

Become acquainted with Cote d’Ivoire’s strangely extravagant capital, Yamoussoukro. With two nights here, there’s plenty of time to take in the sights and attractions. Visit the Presidential Palace, drop by the Le Basilique De Notre Dame De la Paix or perhaps take a cab ride down one of the 6-lane highways that lead nowhere.

Days 42-43 Grand Bassam

Take a stroll through the faded grandeur of Grand Bassam, Cote d'Ivoire's capital during the French colonial era.

Days 44-45 Elmina

It’s goodbye Cote d’Ivoire and hello Ghana today as we drive across the border for two nights on the Atlantic coast in Elmina. Log some well-deserved beach time, then lend a hand with a local school community project.

Day 46 Kakum National Park

Take to the treetops of Kakum National Park with a walk along the series of hanging bridges strung between its giant trees. Keep a close eye out for pygmy elephants and forest buffalo – there’s no better vantage point to spot them from.

Days 47-48 Kumasi

Become immersed in the vibrant cityscape of Kumasi with its National Cultural Centre, streetside eateries and sprawling markets.

Days 49-50 Accra

This West African road journey comes to an end in Accra, Ghana’s cheery capital. Check out the local beach scene, view the collection of exhibits on display in the National Museum or hit the markets for a final spot of souvenir shopping.
