The safety of our passengers, leaders and operators is a major priority of Intrepid. With this in mind we monitor world events very closely. Intrepid makes operational decisions based on informed advice from a number of sources.

The level of the Australian Government Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade (DFAT) travel advisory. For any Intrepid Travel operated trip if this advisory is at Level 4 'Do Not Travel' then Intrepid will either cancel a trip or reroute the itinerary to avoid the areas concerned.

Guatemala - Volcan de Fuego eruption - Mon, 2015-02-09

On 07th February Volcan de Fuego (located approx. 40km south-west of Guatemala City) erupted again spewing large volumes of lava and ash. While hundreds of nearby residents have been evacuated, fortunately no victims have been reported. As a result of the ash cloud, the Guatemala City airport was closed temporarily however it has now re-opened.

All Intrepid trips in the region will continue to operate as normal. Travellers affected by delayed flights please contact your booking agent before leaving home or the emergency contact listed under trip notes if already departed.

Turkey - Istanbul Incident - Thu, 2015-01-08

On 6 January 2015, a police building in Istanbul's main tourist district, Sultanahmet was attacked by a suicide bomber. DFAT advises that all travellers in this area should exercise vigilance and follow the advice of local authorities. The overall level of safety advice from DFAT has not changed.

No groups have been affected by this incident.
