Itinerary

Experience the atmospheric vibe of Durban from street-level on this revealing walking tour infused with the essence of India. Durban's Indian population has shaped the face of this cosmopolitan city, bringing rich culinary traditions, age-old customs and Eastern artistic influences to this thriving African port.
Start the tour with a local guide and discover the historic Grey Street area (also known as Dr Yusuf Dadoo Street). Explore the arcades and alleys lined with shops selling iridescent saris, fragrant spices and fiery curries - you'd be forgiven for thinking you were walking down the streets of Mumbai or Delhi! Don't forget to take time to appreciate the fine Art Deco architecture of the buildings in this area, which give Durban an elegant, historic feel. The Victoria Street Market reveals hawker-style food, traditional healers, beaded jewellery and other sensory wonders bound to captivate and enthrall.
Next, follow your guide to the bustling Warwick Junction precinct where more than 5000 traders market their wares on a daily basis. The atmosphere here is raw and electric, as stalls featuring Zulu clay pots, fresh produce, African art, bright clothing, beaded necklaces, herbal medicine and freshly-caught seafood provide an unfolding array of things to try, buy, taste and photograph!
Finish this tantalising tour at a restaurant located near the Stable Theatre, where you can choose to sip a smooth South African wine, down a crisp Zulu beer or sample some traditional African cuisine - a fine way to end this tour through Durban's memorable markets.
