Itinerary
Get under the skin of the Czech capital and discover the sights lining the right riverbank, from the Old Town to the Jewish Quarter, on this half-day tour in Prague. Meet at Old Town Square, under the gaze of the Astrological Clock, and wait to see how this medieval clock clicks over the hour. This is the most beautiful square in the country, which has witnessed all the decisive events in the history of the Bohemian Kingdom, so pause a moment to soak it all up.
Set off, winding through the streets of the Old Town and learning about the palaces, churches, famous people and legends that have shaped Prague. Our Prague walking tour will take you through a local market, stopping to watch daily life, before weaving through the web of backstreets to reach Wenceslas Square, the site of many of the country’s most iconic moments.
This Prague travel experience gives you the chance to learn about the founding of Czechoslovakia in 1918, the Nazi occupation in 1939, the country’s Communist period, Prague Spring in 1968 and the Velvet revolution in 1989 as you wander beneath the stunning buildings. Pause for a moment under the statue of King Wenceslas to learn about why he is the Czech patron saint.
Jump aboard a local tram heading towards the National Theatre, the most beautiful Neo-Renaissance building in Prague. After admiring its ornate features, stroll along the Vltava River, soaking up views of Charles Square, before arriving at the Nazi terror memorial. Continue this Prague walking tour along the waterfront, passing Frank Gehry’s Dancing House, a modern building that appears to sway into the surrounding architecture. After working up a thirst, finish the tour with a tasty Czech beer at a hidden restaurant.
This restaurant is close to a place where the former Czech president Vaclav Havel would meet with other dissidents to plan the dissolution of the Communist regime, so listen to stories of this decisive period of Czech history. We end the Prague tour here and at the end you’ll have a list of places to return to, restaurants to visit and stores to call into during the rest of your stay in Prague.
