Tipping Info

If you are happy with the services provided by your local guides a tip - though not compulsory - is appropriate. While it may not be customary to you, it is of great significance to the people who will take care of you during your travels, inspires excellent service, and is an entrenched feature of the tourism industry across many Intrepid Urban Adventures destinations. Please consider this when budgeting for your extra expenses on this tour.

Step back in time on this Dahab tour that takes you out of the city and into the ancient lands of Egypt. We’ll pick you up from your hotel at 7am, and take a 2.5 hour drive to St. Catherine, a small town on the outskirts of Mount Sinai. Upon arrival (and probably after a cheeky nap in the van!) your guide will give you a full briefing on St. Catherine’s Monastery, our first stop on the tour. After you’ve learned all the need-to-know info, you’ll have some time to walk around the Monastery at your own pace, exploring this fascinating yet gorgeous landmark in the peace and quiet. Don’t forget to take a peek inside the chapel – you might even get to see some monks going about their daily business.
Next on this historical Egypt tour, we’ll head outside the grounds of the Monastery and your guide will point out some infamous points of interest in the area. These include the Burning Bush, Well of Moses, and the Peace Treaties of all the conquerors and crusaders who took over the Monastery over the centuries. Serious ancient history alert! This area has extremely important historical significance, as the UNESCO World Heritage site title shows. With a local to tell you all about it, you’ll get the full scoop on this captivating place.
As we continue on this St Catherine’s tour, we’ll take a short drive Protectorate Visitor Centre, a set of 5 rooms beautifully set into the mountains, built in the same stone as the mountain themselves. Funding by the UN, a great deal of attention to detail has gone into these buildings, and it certainly shows. The Rangers at the centre will give you a tour and talk, explaining each building and its unique theme: Bedouin Heritage, Flora & Fauna, and St Catherine’s Protectorate, to name a few. We’ll also take a stop off at the Bedouin Handicraft Centre, an EU funded initiative used to empower local women and give them an outlet for their ancient craft methods. You won’t be pressured to buy here, feel free to just look around if you like.
You’ll probably be getting hungry by now, so luckily it’s lunch time! And this tour has a very special lunch lined up for you. You’ll be invited into the family home of a local tribesman of the Jebeliya tribe, a native group that has been living in the area for over 1,400 years. In their home, you will be served a sumptuous selection of local dishes and a copious amount of Bedouin tea!
After a little bit of time to relax, chat to your hosts and guides, and digest your food, we’ll start the climb up Mt. Sinai. We’ll enter from Wadi el Arbain, a more scenic route up the mountain, and a route that will leads us to Elias Garden after around 2.5 hours. The climb can be a little challenging for some, but your local guide will be there to help you out along the way, and you’re free to go at your own pace. Once we stop as Elias Garden, we’ll have a rest and some refreshments, before taking on the 720 Steps of Repentance towards the summit on Mt Sinai.
The climb up Mount Sinai might be tricky for some, but we assure you that the view from the top will be well worth it! We’ll aim to reach the summit in time to watch the setting sun, so that you can drink in the incredible panoramic views of Egypt stretching out before you.
Once you got your breath back (after the climb and being blown away by the views!) we’ll descend the mountain, and your transport will await you at the foot of the mountain, ready to transfer you back to your hotel in Dahab. We’ll get back around 9-10pm, stopping on the way for snacks and drinks if you wish.
