Both modern metropolis and ancient citadel, Beijing is a city of contrasts and home to some of China’s most fascinating art and architecture. After pick up and meeting your group and local guide pay a visit to the lama temple. Here you can wonder in this magnificent structure as you learn about its fascinating 300 year history.
Beijing is at the cutting edge of modern architecture with some of the new developments that are constantly springing up around the city like the CCTV building which we glimpse on our way out to the 798 Art Zone on the city's outskirts. Located in a former factory precinct, this area is now home to hundreds of galleries and is the heart of China’s modern art scene. Wander through the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art (UCCA) and perhaps some of the many other galleries if time permits.
After this it is time to enjoy a traditional evening meal at a local Chinese restaurant. Not likely to encounter any other tourists here! We take a stroll through a local community market and see what the locals are up to.
As it starts to get dark Beijing's skyline takes on a different perspective as we head back into Beijing and to the site of the 2008 Olympic Games. View the spectacular Birds Nest Stadium and Water Cube swimming complex and the famous performing arts centre the 'Egg'. Seeing these icons lit up at night is spectacular a spectacular finale to our experience.
