With almost 150km of graded cycle lanes, Barcelona is the one of the best cities on the Mediterranean to explore by bike. This Barcelona bike tour will uncover the hidden gems of this beautiful metropolis, so jump on your two wheels and enjoy the ride with us!
Throughout this Barcelona bike tour, your local guide will be giving you an introduction to the city; the lowdown on all the key Barcelona facts that every visitor should know. Every few hundreds of metres your guide will stop and share stories with you, including myths about the city and dozens of suggestions about the best things to do in Barcelona. Goodbye guidebook, hello local know how.
You’ll begin your Barcelona tour by hopping on your bike at the Olympic Port, a famous contemporary landmark that Barcelona constructed for the 1992 Olympic Games. It was at this time the city started re-inventing itself, and the year in which it was recognised for its successful urban transformation. This is really when Barcelona came into its own and proved to the world that it was a European city not to be excluded off any travel itinerary!
You’ll continue on your epic bike odyssey past the waterside and Frank Gehry’s famous fish sculpture, before heading to Park Ciutadella, the green lung of central Barcelona. This is a serious local hangout hotspot, and in the summer months you’ll find plenty of Catalans sunning themselves in this park.
Onwards you’ll ride to Eixample, the city’s 19th century quarter that has a unique mix of grand apartment housing and modernist buildings built by the likes of Antoni Gaudi. What would a Barcelona tour be without a splash of Antoni Gaudi?! Here, your local guide will give you a little lesson about the city’s most famous architect, and others that have influence Barcelona’s skyline.
Next, you’ll get your peddle on and glide down Passeig de Gracia, one of Barcelona’s most upmarket streets dotted with designers buildings and swish-looking locals. Down here you’ll find even more beautiful buildings designed by some of Barcelona’s famous architects, and your local guide will give you some local info about the history and design. The architecture is one of the best things to see in Barcelona, no doubt about that!
Your next stop will be into the Raval district, the city's most multicultural neighbourhood and a Barcelona must-see. Explore the labyrinth of small streets that still retain their olden-day charm, and with the Barrio Gotico, or Gothic quarter, just a stone’s throw away, you’ll get a glimpse into the hidden sides of both of these iconic Barcelona neighbourhoods.
Time to rest your hardworking legs with a visit to a tapas joint, rewarding yourself with the best food in Barcelona! Your local guide will give you a lesson on the tapas culture in Barcelona, and recommend the typical dishes to try – although all of them are equally tasty! Pick and choose a sample of dishes and get your ‘om nom nom’ on with this Barcelona tapas tour.
Once you’ve recharged your batteries with tapas, you’ll cycle on towards your final stop, Port Vell, which is Barcelona’s oldest port. It was here in medieval times the Catalan merchants unloaded their freights and the mighty navy took sail. Cycling through a former fishing neighbourhood next to Barcelona’s fantastic beach will take you back to your starting point, where this tour will come to an end. You can either catch a few rays in the sunshine, or your local guide will be happy to give you directions back to your accommodation. (Or, eat more tapas. We vote for the latter.)
