This city encapsulates colourful India. Life and death collide on the shores of the Ganges and history and culture seem imbued in the cobblestones of the narrow alleyways. Enjoy a city tour then cruise down the Ganges at night to witness a moving Aarti ceremony.
Learn about traditional silk weaving, and then spend the afternoon exploring the ruins of Sarnath, the site where Buddha performed his first sermon. Home now to temples built by Tibetan, Chinese, Thai, Burmese and Japanese Buddhists, Sarnath is a peaceful spot to spend time and meet the local monks.
During an early morning boat ride, watch pilgrims perform holy rituals on the fascinating Varanasi ghats. Use free time to explore the ghats and laneways of Varanasi's Old Town before saying goodbye to this holiest of cities.
