Intrepid unveils over 100 new trips and experiences for 2024

SEPTEMBER 2023

Intrepid Travel, a world leader in responsible travel, is launching its 2024 trip range, debuting over 100 new itineraries. The new trips represent a shifting focus to simple and meaningful travel, redefining beloved destinations with more local connection and lifechanging experiences.

The 100 new itineraries for 2024 share four key through lines. The first is low-carbon design, where Intrepid has worked to decarbonize its itineraries, with approximately 4,000 fewer flights included on 2024 departures. The second is family connection. Intrepid’s family range saw its record year of sales for 2023, finally marking the return of international family trips post-pandemic. Third, a shift to shoulder and offseason travel, where Intrepid has expanded its European winter offerings. Finally, is active tours, which will see the addition of 7 new trekking itineraries and multi-active adventures in 2024.

Highlights of the range include:

1.) Low Carbon Design:

10-Day Real Borneo (NEW TRIP from $1580 AUD)

This newly imagined low-carbon itinerary takes travelers from rainforests to mountains by van, exploring the scenic island of Borneo in Malaysia. The trip stretches the Sabah region, discovering its wide range of endemic species including orangutangs, elephants, foxes and bears, with sea-snorkeling, trekking and stays in bamboo huts, guesthouses and jungle lodges along the way. The tour also includes a visit to the untouched oasis of Pandan Pandan island, home to a variety of coral reefs and marine life.

2.) Return of Family Travel:

14-Day Best of Costa Rica Family Holiday (from $4675 AUD)

Intrepid has developed several new trips to celebrate the return of family travel. Most famous for its lush environment, travelers can explore Costa Rica’s Tortuguero National Park and stay in a unique lodge under its famous Arenal volcano. Then, experience the culture of some of the country’s lesser-known areas, from a cooking class to a visit with the Indigenous Terraba people, the new trip is designed to create a well-balanced getaway for long-lasting family memories.

3.) Shift to the Shoulder Season:

5-Day Iceland’s Classic Northern Lights (NEW TRIP from $2468 AUD)

After witnessing an uptick in offseason travel over the past year, Intrepid has launched more winter Europe itineraries, including a 5-Day Iceland Northern Lights journey. The tour takes travelers to the highlights of Iceland's Golden Circle, from exploring Gulfoss Waterfall to hiking across the Solheimajokull Glacier, all while searching for the magnificent lights of the aurora borealis.

4.) Active Adventures:

7-Day Southern Greece – Hike, Bike and Kayak (NEW TRIP from $2628 AUD)

As more travelers search for unique active adventures, Intrepid is launching a new multi-active trip through Southern Greece. From hiking parts of the Menalon trail, known as one of the most beautiful spots in Europe, to cycling along the coast of Kefalonia island, and sea-kayaking to white-sand beaches, the tour is ideal for experiencing the best of island life in Greece.

“2022 was all about taking full advantage of revenge travel to travel anywhere and everywhere, while 2023 led to a focused attention away from the crowds to undiscovered locations,” said Erica Kritikides GM of Product for Intrepid Travel. “Now, as the world wrestles with extreme heat, rapid expansions in artificial intelligence and more, I believe it’s time to bring travel back to basics, evolving our responsible tourism practices in tried-and-true destinations while offering new moments for simple, undeniable adventure,” she adds.

Through these developments, the tour operator, which is celebrating its 35th anniversary in 2024, is getting back to its adventurous roots, focused on the meaningful, indelible moments that transform travellers and communities.

In addition, The Intrepid Foundation is donating to a local nonprofit closely associated to each trip on behalf of every traveller in 2024, with now over 40 NGO partners across every continent.
