It's easy to be filled up by the architecture, culture and vibrant nightlife of Barcelona, but the food on offer is just as good. Traditional Catalan dishes such as fideua (similar to seafood paella) and botifarra amb mongetes (haricot beans served with sausage) taste a little like heaven. The wine isn't bad either; Barcelona is renowed for sparkling wine
The fortified medieval city of Pamplona is a great place to discover on foot. Weave through the city's winding alleyways to the immense Gothic Cathedral and walk down the street of the famous bull run
Logrono is bursting with delicious local produce and wine, just waiting to be enjoyed on an included pinxtos crawl. Delicioso!
Take a long siesta on the golden beaches of San Sebastian, one of Spain's most scenic coastal destinations. As the sun goes down, join the crowds as they come out to play among the city's exciting nightlife
The Art Walk in Madrid is every art lover's dream. In one small stretch you can browse the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, the Reina Sofia and the Prado, one of the world's most celebrated galleries
It's recommended that you leave any wheelie bags/cases at home and bring a backpack instead. It will make it easier when walking around metro or train stations with your bag. Sometimes lifts aren’t available and you would need to walk up and down some stairs carrying your luggage. Please make sure it doesn’t exceed our weight and size recommendations. You can find this information in the 'What to Take' section of the trip notes.
Summer temperatures can be very high in many of the regions visited (over 40°C), which can be uncomfortable. It’s important to use sun protection, wear layers to combat the heat and drink plenty of water. Please carefully consider the time of the year you wish to travel and your suitability to that season.

Classic Spain & Portugal provides great value for what is quite an extensive coverage of these two enchanting countries. The itinerary caters for those who want to explore as much as possible or those who might want to take a more leisurely pace with their free time. Highlights such as the Alahambra Palace in Granada, Seville and its Flamenco, the golden beaches of Portugal's argave coast or its bustling capital Lisbon will provide lasting memories. Porto's ancient river frontage architecture and access to the terraced vineyards of Douro Valley are as intriguing as the the religious mecca that is Santiago de Compostella with its display of architectural iconograpghy, including the Cathedral, monasteries and support buildings of the former walled city. The northern loop of the tour takes in the scenic smorgasbord that is Barcelona, Pamplona, Spain's tapas heaven in the city of Logrono and the exquisite beauty of San Sebastian's sandy bay, outdoor restaurants and historical center.
