Intrepid are born-and-bred Aussie experts. Our adventures take you away from the busy East Coast and into the great outdoors. This is adventure at its max: hiking through gorges in search of bush tucker, catching fish for dinner in the Kimberley and camping – Banjo Patterson-style – on a cattle station under the stars. At the core of it all is a respect for the first Australians, the indigenous communities whose history, culture and spirituality are inscribed into the bush.

Until 30 November, we’re offering 10% OFF all Aussie trips running before 30 September 2017.

*Discount is applied automatically on applicable trips.

Epic overland adventures

When we say Australia is big, we mean it. The whole of Europe and the UK can fit snugly in our borders, with plenty of space left over. To us, real Aussie adventure involves four wheels, new friends and a big open horizon. Whether you’re exploring the Top End from Broome to Darwin or crossing the haunting plains of the Nullarbor, overlanding is all about the journey. Our purpose-built vehicles have been designed for tough Aussie conditions, and include everything you’ll need for your adventure, right down to the folding chairs for your campsite. Load up the iPod with AC/DC’s greatest hits: it’s time to hit the road.

Unforgettable wildlife encounters

We’ve heard it before: Australia is that place where all the animals are out to kill you. While any local will tell you it’s simply not true, we do have some of the most diverse native wildlife on earth – over 80 per cent of our plants, mammals, reptiles and frogs are unique to Oz. And our leaders know where to find them (hint: it’s not the zoo). From March to July, we snorkel with whale sharks at Ningaloo Reef. You can also see wild dolphins in Monkey Mia, cruise the wetlands of Kakadu on the lookout for crocs, or work closely with local creatures on our Daintree Earth Watch expedition.

Unique Indigenous experiences

From the very beginning, an unwavering respect for Aboriginal people and their heritage has been at the heart of everything we do. We work in partnership with Aboriginal communities as a way to educate our travellers about the land. In Katherine, we team up with Manual, a local artist, who shows us traditional painting techniques; in Wulna Country, we receive a Cul Cul (or ‘Welcome to Country’) from the original owners of the land. This year we’re also journeying into Olkola Country on Queensland’s Cape York Peninsula. The Olkola people are working to preserve their culture after recently reacquiring their land. For the first time ever, they’re inviting travellers to share it with them.

Outback highlights and beyond

Synonymous with red dust, open space and Pricilla, Queen of the Desert, the Outback is Australia’s most vibrant feather boa, and our favourite stomping ground.  While highlights like Uluru, Kata Tjuta and the Bungle Bungles are sure to blow your mind, it’s the small things that often stick with you most: wandering into a church encrusted with shells outside Broome; sharing a beer with a stranger at the local pub; or bunking down in a swag (Aussie bedroll) to a few bedtime yarns. From the gorges of Karijini to the pearl farms of Cygnet Bay, our local guides will show you a side of Australia most people imagine, but never see.
