This trip crosses the Nepali-Indian border on Day 5.
This trip has several long travelling days, including Day 5: Lumbini to Varanasi (approximately 9 hours) and an overnight train on Day 7: Varanasi to Agra (approximately 10 hours). Although conditions are basic, these are true local experiences and the best way to travel long distances, meet locals and maximise time at your destinations. On the train, occasionally passengers of different genders will be required to share a compartment and/or you'll be sharing with locals or travellers from other groups.
Weather in India can be very hot in summer so ensure that you pack accordingly, and transport can be delayed by fog in January to February.
From April 2017, the main dome of the Taj Mahal will undergo mud pack therapy to restore its original colour. It is expected the dome will be covered in iron scaffolding during the process which is expected to last a year.
1. A valid Indian visa is required prior to travel. This trip arrives into India overland from Nepal and e-visas are not valid at land borders.
2. A single supplement is available on this trip and is applicable for all nights with the exception the overnight train.
3. Hot air balloon flights are operated by Sky Waltz in Jaipur. Flights operate mornings from September to June and morning and evening from September to March. Morning flights depart around sunrise and evening flights late afternoon and last 60 minutes. Return transfers, tea and coffee plus light refreshments and a certificate of flight are included in the cost. You can register your interest and pay your tour leader at your joining meeting on Day 1 of your trip. Payment must be made in cash - INR/USD/AUD/GBP only please.
