This trip involves some long travel days, especially on Day 8 from El Cuco to Granada. This 14-hour journey includes a boat trip across the Gulf of Fonseca and several hours in a mini-van. Although this can be tiresome, it's a great opportunity to sit back, enjoy the passing scenery and to bond with your fellow travellers. This is a real Central American adventure, after all.
As this trip covers destinations across five countries, you'll need to make several border crossings. While these are usually straightforward, please prepare to be patient.
Central America is tropical, so expect a hot and humid climate. Make sure you protect yourself from the sun, wear comfortable, light clothing and stay hydrated - especially when out on walking tours.
There are many opportunities to get active on this adventure. Some of the the optional activities, especially the volcano hikes, require a moderate level of fitness and sturdy walking shoes. If you'd prefer to take it easy, however, there are plenty of other things you can do instead.
1. Your adventure begins with a welcome meeting at 6pm on Day 1. There are no activities planned for the final day so you may depart at any time.
2. A single supplement is available for purchase on this trip. Please speak to your booking agent for further information.
3. Please be careful when booking flights to/from Antigua; make sure you fly into/out of Guatemala City Airport [GUA]. Guatemala City Airport is the closest airport to Antigua. Please do NOT book flights to/from Antigua & Barbuda Airport [ANU] as this is an island in the Caribbean.

Fantastic trip, a real taste of 5 countries in a very limited time We had a fantastic guide (Juan Manuel) , very chilled and informative. He is a qualified naturalist and volunteers for the turtle protection programs, so a great source of information. Only issue I had was with the optional extras, they were often more expensive that what you could get locally. We did however do some of the Intrepid optionals, and they were always very good. Intrepid also won’t recommend/assist with activities where its deemed too dangerous, but its easy to organize yourself. (eg we hired a scooter on Ometepe, also rafting in La Fortuna) Points that will hopefully help others on this trip : Money : You don’t get better rates with bigger USD notes, so don’t take too many notes 50 or higher (maybe just for optionals). The 2 of us took a mix from the post office (GBP1000 in USD), then another 20X1USD, 20X5USD and 10X10USD, and it lasted perfectly, esp smaller items such as tips, taxis, etc. You can use dollars directly for the majority of the trip, but change can be difficult if you only have larger notes. Card payments were easy too ,esp at the tail end of the trip, but use a card with low/no charges such as Halifax Clarity / Revolut . Wifi We picked up a Movistar SIM in Antigua (cnr Poniente & 3 Ave), cost 24USD for 6Gb/30 days , I put it into my travel/mobile router (Huawei E5770) and it lasted the 2 of us perfectly for the whole trip with medium/high usage (activate the free ‘sin fronteras’ option so that it works in all 5 countries) Highly recommended trip !

I really enjoyed the trip but that was mainly due to the guide and the group members. The itinerary wasn't bad at all but some of the activities were overpriced for what it was e.g. city tours and walking tours.
