Why you'll love this trip
  • The choice is yours on the way to Machu Picchu – test yourself on the challenging Classic Inca or Inca Quarry trails, or take the train for a more leisurely experience. Then, marvel at the incredible Inca citadel of Machu Picchu with a guided tour around the ruins of temples, palaces and living quarters.
  • Experience the wild world of the Amazon rainforest. Stroll along jungle trails on the lookout for monkeys, parrots, otters and caiman, and sleep in a nature lodge lit by candles and kerosene lamps.
  • Treat yourself to freshly made coffee and cakes at a local restaurant in the Sacred Valley that’s empowering community growth and providing job opportunities and training for single mothers from the region.
  • Enjoy a day out on tranquil Lake Titicaca, the world’s highest navigable body of water, and explore the floating islands crafted by the indigenous Uru locals.
  • Get to know the locals of the Huilloq community in the Sacred Valley, learn from them, discover their ancestral textile techniques, join an offering to Pachamama and then sit down for a special lunch together.
  • At Intrepid we’ve always been about balancing profit and purpose and as the largest B Corp certified operator on the Inca Trail we’re committed to operating our treks for the benefit of all – join us and help make the world a better place.

Is this trip right for you?
  • Parts of your trip go above 28000m/9200ft where it is common for travellers to experience some adverse health effects due to the altitude - regardless of your age, gender and fitness. Please see the ‘Medical and Health Information’ section of the Essential Trip Information for more detail.
  • The Amazon Jungle can be very hot and humid, so it's important to drink plenty of water and wear light cotton clothing. Make sure you also bring tropical-strength insect repellent.
  • Visitors are not permitted to explore Machu Picchu without a Machu Picchu guide (not our trip leaders) and must follow set routes within the site. This trip includes one guided visit of Machu Picchu (approximately 1.5 - 2 hours). Your leader will provide more information to ensure you get the most out of your visit to this incredible site.
  • If you choose to trek the Inca Trail or Quarry Trail there'll be strenuous hiking and you’ll be camping with basic facilities during the hiking section of the itinerary. This option is recommended for those with a good level of fitness. See the ‘Packing’ section of the Essential Trip Information for more detail on specific clothing and equipment requirements.
  • Travellers who choose different ways of reaching Machu Picchu (Inca Trail, Quarry Trail or Train), will not follow the same routes within Machu Picchu. This means that you may not be able to have photos together, overlooking Machu Picchu. This applies to travellers on the same booking or separate bookings.
  • As you can choose different ways of reaching Machu Picchu (Inca Trail, Quarry Trail or Train) it is possible you will be the only traveller on your selected option. An Intrepid leader or local guide is assigned to and accompanies travellers on each option.

It was a truly amazing trip! Tina, out tour guide was so enthusiastic, helpful and knowledgeable which made the trip a once in a lifetime. Plenty of early mornings but they are all worth it! Make sure you train for the Inca Trail - it's not easy.

This trip was fantastic and easily exceeded my high expectations. There is so much to see and do in Peru that 14 days is barely enough, although you do need a good rest afterwards. The eco lodge in the Amazon was amazing, as was the 3 day Inca Quarry trail. Our guide, Smithy, was brilliant and turned a good itinerary into a truly memorable holiday. If you get the chance, use the spare day in Cusco to visit the Rainbow Mountain, it is a truly spectacular experience
