Discover the spectacular sun-kissed isles tucked away east of Bali before exploring the island itself

There’s no question that Bali’s a beauty, but just beyond Indonesia’s popular holiday island there’s a vast new world to explore. Join Intrepid on a small-ship adventure cruise to some of the most enchanting isles of the Indonesian archipelago: the tiny twin paradises of Saringi and Karamat, the incredible crater lake of Satonda, unspoiled Banta, Komodo dragon-filled Rinca, and quiet Moyo, where hidden cascades lie in wait. Before returning to Kuta, stop on Lombok proper for a taste of traditional life on the mainland around gorgeous Senggigi Beach. With the comfort of four-star accommodation and the mobility of small ship, this adventure cruise is Indonesian island-hopping at its finest.
Bali and paradise are synonymous with each other. Everyone who visits always has a reason to come back, be it to explore the rich history, stunning beaches or the flourishing landscapes they might have missed the first time around. This adventure takes you to the lesser-visited east coast of Bali, allowing you to experience it all at in the one go. Get your cultural fix at the temple of Gunung Kawi or the stunning water palace of Tirta Gangga, dive into the ruins of the USS Liberty off the coast of Tulamban or simply kick back in style at the resort like beaches of Seminyak – enjoying comfortable accommodation and plenty of exploration time along the way.

  • Discover Ubud, and take in the scenery and surrounding rice terraces, as well as the amazing food.

  • Explore some of Bali's famous world class beaches, then spend some time off the beaten track to find the lesser known spots that the locals keep guarded

  • Enjoy comfortable accommodation and free time to allow you to relax and unwind or make the most of life by the pool

Is this trip right for you?

  • This is a small ship adventure cruise, which means you’ll be sailing on a yacht with 30–50 other people. The boat is spacious and comfortable, but it focuses more on the destination than on-board activities. Instead of a pool, we have the sea itself. Instead of a casino, we’ve got board games and a good book. There’s also no formal dress code to worry about. Wi-Fi is available for a small charge.

  • Our ship moves under engine power, rather than sailing, so all cabins will experience light engine noise when the ship is moving (and occasionally when we drop anchor). It’s probably worth packing earplugs if you’re a light sleeper.

  • If you’re concerned about seasickness, there are seasickness tablets on-board. The ship will experience some roll and pitch in choppy conditions, however all of our ships come equipped with stabilisers to minimise movement. Most of our departures run in peak season, when the seas are calmer. Your crew will do all they can to minimise any discomfort.

  • There are no lifts (elevators) on-board our ships, so you’ll have to navigate a few steep flights of stairs. Handrails are always available.

  • This trip is very much focused around marine activities so confidence in the water will allow you to make the most of the snorkelling opportunities. Flotation aids will be available as well as kayaks and stand up paddleboards and plenty of time to just enjoy the small ship cruising life.

  • This trip does include a couple of day walks. These are in the capabilities of most travellers.

  • There is an included snorkelling trip off the coast of Tulamben. You will need to be able to swim to participate.

  • Bali is blessed with a consistent climate for most of the year. However, the rainy season (usually October–March) brings frequent downpours. The good news is that these rainy bursts don't last long, and it is usually still warm.

Take a short walk to the lake and enjoy a refreshing dip there. Perhaps take the optional walk from there to a lookout located high on the island – definitely a good choice for any photographers in the group. As the day draws to a close, catch the sunset, then leave Satonda at 8 pm and sail overnight to Banta Island.

After lunch, walk to a local village and continue with village guides to the Diwe Mbai waterfall for a cooling swim in its natural pool. After dinner on board, set sail towards Lombok, the sleepy giant that lies to the east of Bali.

When entering temples you will be required to wear a sarong over appropriate clothing – long skirt/pants (no shorts or mini skirts). At most temples you can rent a sarong but we recommend you purchase a sarong at one of the markets so as you can carry this with you. Sarongs are very inexpensive to purchase locally and make a nice keepsake of your Bali trip once home. Your leader will explain this further to you on day one at the group meeting.
Ubud is Bali's main arts and cultural centre, recently made famous by the Hollywood movie 'Eat Pray Love'. It's a wonderful place to experience the magic that has made Bali such a popular travel destination.Today take a leisurely walk along Campuhuan Ridge to fully appreciate the lush green surrounds of Ubud. Also visit the Bumi Sehat, a local community-based health clinic whose mission is to reduce maternal and child morbidity and mortality. Sitting in the middle of three large pools, the main building, known as Gili Bale, sits in tranquillity next to beautiful stone arches and well maintained gardens. Afterwards you will head to Candidasa a journey of around 30 mins. In the afternoon, take a short trip to nearby Tengangan Village to walk around this historic town. According to legend, the people of Tengangan were selected by the god Indra as the caretakers of the land, ordered to use every means to keep the area pure and clean in both the spiritual and physical senses. Later, enjoy some free time, perhaps spend some time relaxing around the town’s attractive lagoon or take a swim in the inviting waters. At the waterfall there is the option to cool off in the falls before returning the same way. After working up an appetite enjoy a delicious home cooked lunch in the community restaurant.
