Map of Whitsundays Camping Adventure including Australia

Camp surrounded by the beauty of the dazzling Whitsunday Islands

The word paradise is thrown around a lot these days, but nowhere quite lives up to the title like the Whitsunday Islands. Add together glorious sweeps of white sand beaches, dense rainforest and bright blue waters and you’ve got one of Australia’s most awe-inspiring destinations. Spend five days in the heart of the Great Barrier Reef walking, kayaking, swimming and exploring, then unwind in secluded campsites as the sun goes down, with only a tent between you and an unforgettable view. With a local leader by your side, you’ll spend less time worrying about the little things and more time soaking up the magic of this spectacular stretch of the country.

Why you'll love this trip

  • Camping on the stunning Whitsunday Islands means you’ll have some of Australia’s most spectacular spots all to yourself once the day trippers go home, and you’ll wake up in paradise each morning.

  • All camping equipment, snorkelling gear, kayaks and stinger suits are included to help you get the most out of this incredible destination.

  • Explore the criss-crossing walking trails of South Molle island, take a dip in clear blue waters and end your day with a drink in hand while watching an unforgettable sunset.

  • Spend two days on the secluded Crayfish Beach – not only amazing on the surface, a look beneath the water will reveal fantastic coral cover and a true mecca for snorkellers.

  • Visit the jewel in the crown of the Whitsundays – Whitehaven Beach. Spend a day soaking up views of its unbelievable white sands and famous blue waters.

Is this trip right for you?

  • This is a participatory trip. That’s a fancy way of saying you’re not just along for the ride – you are part of a team! You know the phrase ‘the more you put in, the more you get out’? Well that’s extra true on this trip. Be prepared to roll up your sleeves and help with camp activities like food prep and washing up.

  • That teamwork also extends to our optional food kitty to cover the cost of meals. This kitty saves you worrying about stuff like where to get food and helps keep your costs down. Instead of paying individually as you go, it means we can bulk purchase items and cook our own food. The kitty is optional and for your convenience, so if you've got specific dietary requirements you can opt out and purchase (and cook) your own food.

  • This trip is new to our range this year. And while we have thoroughly researched every detail of the logistics, new destinations can sometimes throw us some unexpected surprises. More often than not, it’ll be a great surprise. But every now and again there might be a hiccup. We like to think that’s what puts the ‘adventure’ in ‘adventure travel’.

Itinerary

Welcome to the Whitsundays! Your camping adventure begins at Airlie Beach, where you’ll meet up with your local leader and fellow travellers. From here, jump aboard a water taxi and cruise across to South Molle Island. This place is a real treat for the eyes, coloured with dense rainforest, a flurry of birds and bright blue waters wherever you look. Set up camp for the night in an isolated spot in Paddle Bay or Sandy Bay, then get out and enjoy all this incredible island has to offer. Perhaps head down to the beach east of your campsite and hit the walking trails that lead onto spectacular lookout points. You may like to take a swim in the crystal-clear ocean or maybe jump in a kayak to explore your surroundings. Finish the day with a drink in hand and watch a sunset that’s sure to take your breath away, then get to know your new travel buddies over dinner.

Say goodbye to Crayfish Beach this morning and catch a water taxi to Whitehaven Beach, the jewel in the crown of the Whitsundays. Famed for its unbelievable white sand beaches and dazzling blue waters, the beach is popular with day trippers who hop across from the mainland, but once they head home for the day, the place is left to the campers. You may like to take a walk up to an amazing lookout to get a full picture of the area, visit the gorgeous Chance bay or stroll the whole 7km to the northern end of the beach where you’ll find the unique swirling sands of Hill Inlet (although you’ll need a kayak to cross the inlet itself).
