Discover a slice of Vietnamese paradise on this active adventure.
The spectacular valleys and mountains of Vietnam were simply made for exploration. Put on your hiking shoes and get ready for this immersive journey that gets away from the bright lights of Hanoi and under the skin of Vietnam's bucolic countryside. In between trekking and cycling past lush landscapes, stop in at local villages and learn about traditional life with memorable homestay experiences. It’s not all mountains and trails either, with an opportunity to kayak across the majestic waters of Lan Ha Bay and spend a night in a waterside resort. Prepare to be led off the beaten track.

Get active while exploring the very best that Vietnam has to offer, in true Intrepid style.
The chance to experience two community home stays is the best way we know to get insight into local life and culture.
See the country from the back of a bike as you cycle through rural regions and busy cities, on foot as you hike through the hills of Sapa and from the water as you paddle across Lan Ha Bay.
Escape the crowds at Halong Bay and explore more secluded lagoons and caves of nearby Lan Ha Bay - less visited but just (if not more!) beautiful.

This is an active and varied tour with a number of activities to get your pulse going. While specific prior training isn't necessary, some travellers have found parts of the itinerary quite challenging and a reasonably high level of fitness is needed to get the best out of the experience.
The hike in Sapa is approximately 10 kilometres (6.2miles) in total, on sometimes steep and uneven terrain.
You will spend 2 days on your bike, riding to Mai Chau and Ninh Binh, with approximately 60-70 kilometres of cycling each day. The cycling in these areas is relatively flat and you will have time to get used to your bike in Hanoi before departing.
Our community homestays in Sapa and Mai Chau are in multishare accommodation with simple bedding and shared bathroom facilities which may not have hot water. The warm welcome and home-cooked meals will definitely hit the spot after a day of exercise.
We kayak around secluded islands in Lan Ha Bay to explore this world renowned scenery. While this bay is generally sheltered, this is open water kayaking so you will need to be confident on and in water for this activity.

Our Vietnam: Hike, Bike & Kayak trips score an average of 4.94 out of 5 based on 62 reviews in the last year.
This trip does require a good level of fitness so make sure you can cycle at least 60km with some steep gradients as well as be to hike sometimes in steep areas. May/June was verging on too hot I would recommend going outside of this season to be able to really enjoy the cycling and hiking. The areas visited are amazing (there is not a chance you could see Vietnam, the true culture and way of life if you did this by yourself) and the schedule worked like clockwork, as a solo traveler among the group I felt safe the whole time. Make sure you take Chafing cream for cycling and sunscreen both can be a bit hard to come across in Vietnam.

Absolutely loved this trip. It’s a perfect itinerary for those who like to be active but also want to see more of Vietnam.
