This trip involves some long stints of travel, including a 12-hour overnight train to Hue. Although conditions are basic, overnight trains are a true Intrepid experience and the best way to travel long distances, meet locals and maximise time at your destinations. Occasionally passengers of different genders will be required to share a compartment and/or you'll be sharing with locals or travellers from other groups.
In Hue, one day is spent touring the sights on the back of a motorbike. The bikes are great fun and are driven safely by professionals, but alternative transportation can be arranged upon request for those who don’t wish to ride on a motorbike.
The weather in Vietnam can be hot and sticky, particularly during the monsoon seasons, so ensure that you pack accordingly. Please also wear sunscreen and a hat, especially when out on a boat in Halong Bay and in the Mekong Delta.
This popular trip provides a great overview of some of the highlights of Vietnam with plenty of included activities. If you would like more time to explore each destination, perhaps consider one of our longer trips.

This is two part. One comment on our trip. The part in Hue touring the citadel with the local tour guide dragged a lot. He wasn't easy to understand and wasn't able to gather everyone together so we were hearing bits at different times. In hindsight my friend and I would have skipped this. We did our own cycling tour in Hoi An. A full day which was one of the biggest highlights of our tour. The motorbike tour with Intrepid was brilliant. Well organised and even in drizzly conditions we had great fun. Again the same tour guide for the tomb part so we skipped it as we knew it would drag on. He just needs to be strict and gather everyone. Overall it was a fantastic trip. Very well organised. Something for everyone. The overnight train journey was an adventure. Difficult to sleep but it didn't matter for one night. The hotel in Hue was the best of the trip meaning catch up sleep. Hoi An was a complete delight. Great to have free time there. We booked transfers both sides and our poor guy waited 3 hours for us at Hanoi as our luggage was lost and we had delays. So impressed he waited all that time. Everything was efficiently done. Included meals far surpassed our expectations. Halong Bay crew even organised cake and real French champagne for our Christmas Eve trip. We loved our trip. Thank you Intrepid.
