The USA is a big country. Distances between destinations may be longer than what you're used to, especially if you're coming from Europe. There are many long days of driving, so expect to spend a lot of time in the van – perfect for soaking in the scenery, perfecting your car games, or catching up on that latest book or album. Some travel days are 6–7 hours long
Although our vans do have air conditioning, it has to work pretty hard to keep a full group cool. Expect to feel hot during summer and cold at other times of the year, especially at night. Please consider the season and research the weather conditions to determine the best time to travel for you. Remember to come prepared with adequate clothing.
This is a participatory trip. Be prepared to roll up your sleeves and help out with camp activities like food prep and washing up. This trip also involves you putting up and down your tent as you move from place to place.

Our family of 5 including three children under 10 enjoyed the western USA family tour in July 2017. The alternating camping and hotels allowed us to be organised which is always a challenge with kids. The highlights were the 4th July fireworks in san Diego, Las Vegas, the beauty of Yosemite and kayaking with the Sea Otters in Monterey. Our guide Crystal was organised and helpful. We would recommend this trip to any family for their first tour of Western USA.

Excellent trip itinerary, with a perfect mix of National Parks and cities, giving a great flavour of the 3 states visited. The combination of hotels and camping also added to the experience, especially with the opportunity to stay in the Grand Canyon National Park. However, the trips are primarily designed around groups of young adults and when travelling in a family group, this is not always compatible. Hotel rooms were not allocated together or necessarily even on the same floor, nor all hotels were in locations suitable for families. The camping equipment is not necessarily suitable for middle aged parents, with just a thin camping mat to sleep on, so be aware!
