Is this trip right for you?

  • This is an active trip packed with activities such as cycling, trekking and horse-riding. To fully enjoy it, you and your family will need to be in a good state of health and fitness.

  • Every member of your family will require a good pair of shoes, preferably made for hiking, to participate fully and comfortably in all included activities.

  • The weather in Morocco can be extreme. Summer temperatures can be uncomfortably hot, especially for those who aren't accustomed to the heat, so please consider what time of year you travel carefully. If you do travel in the warmer months then pack layers to cover you from the sun, bring the necessary sun protection and drink plenty of water. The desert can also get cold at night, so remember to bring base layers and warm clothing.

  • The trip involves some early starts and long days due to the itinerary being packed with lots of exciting activities.

  • You will have a chance to discover the coast of Morocco on a horse back. While horses are great animals, we understand not everyone feels confident on their back. Please make sure you will make your tour leader aware of any issues before the start of this activity. Helmets for this activity are provided by us.

  • As Morocco has a tipping culture, travellers are expected to tip small amounts for most services, so please be prepared. Your leader will suggest methods and amounts to tip during the trip, but it is left to the group to decide the details.

Itinerary

Salaam Aleikum! Welcome to Morocco. You will be able to check in to your hotel early this afternoon. Ask hotel reception when and where tonight’s welcome meeting will take place. If you have the time (and the energy) why not explore the Medina and the city's seemingly endless mosaic of souqs before you have to attend. Or maybe take a walk to the well-known Koutoubia Mosque and its 12th-century minaret, which was the famous prototype for the Giralda tower in Seville. During this evening’s welcome meeting, you will need to hand over your family’s insurance and next of kin details to your leader. Following the formalities, why not ask your leader for a good place to get your first taste of Morocco for dinner. You could even ask your fellow family travellers to join you and get to know each other over a tajine.

Your nose is sure to announce your proximity to Djeema el-Fna, the famous public square filled with merchants, food stalls and performers. Enjoy a rest, plus a drink of arguably the best freshly squeezed orange juice anywhere in the world at a local stall. Your bike tour ends here, among the crowds and sound of drums and flutes. Spend a little time exploring at your on pace, perhaps picking up some souvenirs or sampling among some of the smoking meats that cooks begin selling at dusk.

Get set for a thrilling, 3-hour downhill bike ride, the intensity of which will be adjusted according to the group's abilities. A support vehicle will accompany the group, so those who do not wish to cycle can follow in the car. Enjoy a classic Moroccan lunch of salads, tajine and freshly baked bread. In the evening, enjoy the hospitality of a local Berber family with a homestay in Aroumd. Facilities at the homestay are shared (both the bathroom and sleeping arrangements) but cosy, comfortable and definitely a unique Intrepid experience.

Travelling during Ramadan:

Ramadan is an exciting time to travel through Morocco but there are also a few things to bear in mind.

Meal times will be a lot later than you may be used to, in particular dinner. You will find restaurants will open at 7-7:30 pm in the evening for dinner. Which will mean your family may not be eating dinner until 8-8:30 pm. Likewise breakfast may not start until 7 am.

As you travel through the countryside there will be limited small road side cafes to stop at.

Your leader will pre-plan where to stop to ensure families have access to snacks and bathroom stops along the way.

Morocco is a Muslim country therefore alcohol is not readily available, particularly during Ramadan.

While wi-fi is available in our hotels it is important to note that wi-fi works best in the hotel foyer and will be very slow in the rooms. An easier option may be to purchase a sim card in country to stay connected.
