Welcome to the world’s largest sand island
The World Heritage-listed K’gari (formerly known as Fraser Island) on Queensland’s East Coast isn’t your typical island getaway. It’s a place where sand roads replace tarmac, dingoes roam the shores and crystalline creeks weave through ancient rainforests. In other words, it’s made for adventures. Get your thrills on a four-wheel drive along 75 Mile Beach, hike the rugged headlands to spot sharks and rays in the shallows or bathe in the beautiful Boorangoora (Lake McKenzie) — probably one of the bluest lakes you’ll ever see. In the language of the Butchulla people, the traditional owners, K’gari means ‘paradise’. Come find out why.

See Maheno Shipwreck
The rusting wreck of Maheno is one of the island's most popular photo stops. Maheno was a luxury passenger liner and also a hospital ship in Europe during World War One. She was sold to Japan for scrap after the war, but a cyclone during her final voyage in 1935 meant her fate was destined for K'gari.
Bathe in Champagne Pools
Take a dip in Champagne Pools, a natural sea jacuzzi where waves froth over the pools' rocky edge like they're tumbling down a tower of coupe glasses. On your way down to the pools, take a moment to enjoy the view from the boardwalk which snakes along the rugged coastal headlands.
Drive along 75 Mile Beach
75 Mile Beach isn’t just a gateway to some of K'gari’s most famous attractions, it's also an official highway with all the usual road rules and an airstrip, so keep an eye on the sky for landing planes! A four-wheel drive is the only permitted vehicle on K'gari, so buckle up and get ready for an off-road adventure.
Float down Eli Creek
Float down the sparkling Eli Creek, a lush, banksia-lined creek that pours up to four million litres of water into the ocean every hour. There's minimal effort required from you as the water practically does all the work for you. Feel the sun on your skin as the gentle current carries you along this winding watercourse.
Go whale watching
Between July and October, K'gari is the perfect place to spot whales off the coast. Seeing these incredible animals breaching, spraying water into the air and slapping their tails on top of the water to communicate with other whales in the area is an experience not to be missed.
Reconnect with nature
With limited to no mobile phone reception, get ready to switch off and reconnect with nature. However, with towering eucalypt forests, rolling sand dunes, hidden lakes and lush rainforests that grow and thrive primarily in sand, there's plenty to keep you occupied on this unique and stunning island.
