Get a taste of northern Spain's culture, cuisine and charisma
Come on a short but sweet tour through the north of Spain and get to know the people, landscapes, customs and cuisine that combine to make this part of the country so fascinating. From sipping delicious Rioja in Logrono and delighting in the seaside charms of bustling Barcelona to enjoying the lively tapas bars of San Sebastian and pulling up a seat in an atmospheric square in Madrid - this will be one eight-day adventure you won't forget.
It's easy to be filled up by the architecture, culture and vibrant nightlife of Barcelona, but the food on offer is just as good. Traditional Catalan dishes such as fideua (similar to seafood paella) and botifarra amb mongetes (haricot beans served with sausage) taste a little like heaven. The wine isn't bad either; Barcelona is renowed for sparkling wine
The fortified medieval city of Pamplona is a great place to discover on foot. Weave through the city's winding alleyways to the immense Gothic Cathedral and walk down the street of the famous bull run
Logrono is bursting with delicious local produce and wine, just waiting to be enjoyed on an included pinxtos crawl. Delicioso!
Take a long siesta on the golden beaches of San Sebastian, one of Spain's most scenic coastal destinations. As the sun goes down, join the crowds as they come out to play among the city's exciting nightlife
The Art Walk in Madrid is every art lover's dream. In one small stretch you can browse the Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum, the Reina Sofia and the Prado, one of the world's most celebrated galleries
It's recommended that you leave any wheelie bags/cases at home and bring a backpack instead. It will make it easier when walking around metro or train stations with your bag. Sometimes lifts aren’t available and you would need to walk up and down some stairs carrying your luggage. Please make sure it doesn’t exceed our weight and size recommendations. You can find this information in the 'What to Take' section of the trip notes.
Summer temperatures can be very high in many of the regions visited (over 40°C), which can be uncomfortable. It’s important to use sun protection, wear layers to combat the heat and drink plenty of water. Please carefully consider the time of the year you wish to travel and your suitability to that season.
As accommodation on this trip is multi-share, single travellers will share a room with another traveller of the same sex. Traveling with Intrepid Travel made our trip fun and easy, and allowed us to focus on relaxing and learning about the locations. I recommend to travel light. We used medium sized backpacks and this made it easier to get on and off trains and busses. We also had our day packs to carry cameras and hats. Also, planning a night or two before and after the tour gives you time to adjust and take in the cities leisurely.

Pack light, be flexible. If you love food, the tapas crawls (lead by you or the group leader) will be one of the highlights of the trip.
