Why you'll love this trip
  • Check all of the 'Big Five' Utah national parks off your list with visits to Zion, Bryce Canyon, Arches, Canyonlands and Capitol Reef.
  • Learn about indigenous culture and history in Monument Valley during a tour led by a Navajo guide and spend the night in a traditional hogan hut.
  • Hike past sculpted sandstone formations, waterfalls and hanging gardens in Zion National Park, roasting s’mores around a campfire by night.
  • Explore Bryce Canyon, known for its crimson-coloured hoodoos which are spire-shaped rock formations.
  • See the exquisite sandstone arches of the aptly named Arches National Park and witness spectacular desert colours during a sunrise hike to Delicate Arch.
  • Get closer to nature in cabins and campsites, the perfect way to take advantage of Utah’s dark skies for some premier stargazing.
  • By travelling on this trip, you’ll directly support our Intrepid Foundation partner, the Grand Canyon Conservancy. Donations help them protect Grand Canyon National Park and support trail restoration, conservation of native plants and wildlife, and educational programs.

Is this trip right for you?
  • This trip involves a partial camping experience, giving you access to more remote destinations at close proximity plus the joy of camping under the night skies and beside a campfire. This is a participatory trip – a fancy way of saying you’re not just along for the ride, but you are part of a team! Be prepared to roll up your sleeves and help out with camp activities like food prep and washing up. It’s all about giving your new travel mates a hand, and everyone knows there’s nothing worse than trying to put up a tent on your own!
  • That teamwork also extends to our optional food kitty of approximately USD 10 per day, run to cover the cost of meals. This kitty saves you worrying about stuff like where to get food or what exactly sales tax is, and actually helps keep your costs down. Instead of paying individually as you go, it means we can bulk purchase items and cook our own food – though there’s always the chance to use it for the occasional pizza night! The kitty is optional and for your convenience, so if you've got specific dietary requirements you can opt out and purchase (and cook) your own food.
  • The desert areas of Utah can be very hot and dry, especially in summer. Although our private vehicles do have air conditioning, it has to work pretty hard to keep a full group cool. Keep in mind that while the desert can be hot during the day it can get quite chilly at night, so pack accordingly.
  • You'll be travelling in a van with your group, so conditions may feel a little cramped. It’s simply the best way to get around, and you might even make some long-term friends.

It has been such a wonderful experience with Intrepid. I was with an amazing guide, who were very professional and easily approachable. I got to meet people from other countries and bonded during this trip. It is a really nice tour group size, not overly crowded. The tour itself was remarkable, definitely experience of a life-time. Highly recommended.

Great way to see the state of Utah! The highlight was the day hiking at Zion, make sure you apply for the Angels Landing permit as it is well worth it. The campgrounds and accommodation were of a good standard, the cabins in Moab were amazing! I have deducted a point for the guide and his mismanagement of the food kitty, apart from this the tour was 5/5!

Outstanding itinerary and a fabulous trip overall. The scenery is stunning and I was lucky enough to have a fantastic group and a great tour leader. Camping and preparing some of our own meals helped keep the cost down. This is a great way to see a beautiful part of America.

Overall the trip itinerary and tour leader were great. Just be prepared to really 'rough' it in Monument Valley and the Navajo nation. Apparently because of Covid we could not stay in a hogan. Instead we were subjected to a filthy pit toilet with no door, 1/2 roll TP for 11 people, no water, sleeping in a dusty, dirty parking lot, and a terrible, inedible evening meal. After a decent breakfast we were taken to a rest stop for drinking water and to clean up. Really not acceptable.
