Why you'll love this trip
  • Kicking things off in lively Portland, let your local leader show you the city’s history and culture on a walking tour that takes in all the best bits.
  • Aside from welcoming locals, whales, dolphins, seals and puffins all call coastal Maine home – head out to meet them on a memorable boat trip in Boothbay.
  • It wouldn’t be a trip to New England without a clambake! Tuck into this traditional feast on Cabbage Island, trying lobster, fish chowder, blueberry cake and more.
  • Time the tide in Bar Harbor for a walk out to Bar Island before before seeing "the most beautiful lighthouse in the US" - Bass Harbor Head Light.
  • Watch the sunrise from Cadillac Mountain in Acadia National Park, the first place in the US the morning light touches.

Is this trip right for you?
  • Maine can get chilly, even in the summer. Make sure you bring layers and a rain jacket.
  • There are walking opportunities throughout this trip. We recommend you bring good quality walking shoes if you're keen to enjoy a hike - or two!

I undertook this trip Aug23, the tour leader was excellent and informative on the area. The itinerary was balanced, great National Parks and scenery. I would recommend this trip to others.

Maine is an amazing place that I have spent a lot of time in and this trip was a great opportunity to see some new parts of the state. You get a lot of free time so you will need to be pretty organised and have some ideas of other things you want to see not on the itinerary. Overall a relaxing trip in a wonderful place.

I was very happy we decided to use intrepids coastal tour for our trip to Maine The group was small and friendly and the guide was knowledgeable and accommodating. There was enough free time built in to keep it in a relaxed vacation mode and accommodations were very comfortable with beautiful grounds. Have already recommended intrepid to friends based on our experience.

Maine is beautiful and the activities are fun. However the tour company Intrepid contracts says they are "not experts". Expect only transportation and hotels booked - no information or guidance.
