Experience East Africa's best on tour from Kenya to Tanzania
Africa is truly the cradle of life. Roam the famous Serengeti National Park, nearly 15,000 sq km of rolling savanna that shelters an astounding array of animals from miniature dik-dik antelopes to lions and the noble African elephant. Spot wildlife among the ethereal vistas from atop the Ngorongoro Crater. This is also a human journey that puts you among Kenya and Tanzania's bustling markets and plantations, and in the valleys once inhabited by humankind's earliest ancestors. If you want to experience some of the most superb game-viewing in Africa, then this will truly be a tour to remember.
Shop for local wares and interact with townsfolk at the Mwigobero Market on the edge of Lake Victoria
Explore the Serengeti National Park in depth, with two early-morning and two late-afternoon game drives through this spectacular wildlife arena
Learn about the Great Rift Valley where the annual migration of some two million wildebeest plays out
Take a mind-blowing safari across the floor of the Ngorongoro Crater in an open-roof 4X4 for a chance to see the endangered black rhinoceros
Accompanied by a local crew — a leader, driver and cook – you'll be in excellent hands for the duration of your adventure
Camping in the Serengeti National Park with no barriers between you and the animals is amazing, but it's important to heed the safety advice of your leader. You'll be briefed on arrival.
Our purpose-built overland vehicles allow for excellent game viewing, equipped with large sliding windows. They have no air-conditioning, however, so they can get dusty and hot at times.
The going can be slow over the long distances and often bumpy roads. A little bit of patience will go a long way towards your enjoyment of this beautiful land!
This is a participatory camping trip, so team spirit is key. You'll be expected to help out with camp setup, food preparation and cleaning.
As the early bird catches the worm, the early camper sights the animals. There will be many early starts either to make use of the better safari time or to beat the morning traffic on long travel days.
Some passengers will have been travelling together prior to the start of this trip. Please see The Masai Heartlands trip to see what you're missing out on.

I had time of my life! Absolutely amazing life time experience and my mind is mentally still in East Africa. Off course East Africa was very kind to us as we got to see BIG 5 and had no hiccups all thanks to the wonderful crew we had. Please allow me to express my gratitude towards Queenter (our tour leader), OT (Chef) and Sam (Reliable driver). Queenter – she had been amazing and an excellent tour guide. I would like to thank her for being patient and her kindness towards all of us. We were a demanding group and I never ever saw disappointment or frustration from Queenter. This proves her character and her willingness to ensure that we as customers have an excellent time. She resembled a true African who always smiled and is happy. Please thank her on my behalf. Job well done! Intrepid needs tour leaders like Queenter and I can guarantee that one will have a nice time. OT – a charming and joyful character who not only is an amazing cook but also a wonderful character. I still remember during our briefing session, when some of us found out that OT was going to be our chef, there was a big cheer in the room. My expectations went up straight away and I am delighted to say that he lived upto expectations and went above and beyond his role. Sam – one has to admire his driving skills and his focus on safety. He took great care of us and also helped out in any shape of form, whether doing dishes, cleaning or even collecting firewood for us. I am very certain that he must be tired driving us around, yet he contributed above and beyond just driving. Overall, I would rate the trip 4.5/5 and would highly recommend to anyone. In fact, some of us have already started planning our next trip and are hoping that Queenter, OT and Sam will be our crew. Thank you for a wonderful life time experience and I look forward to booking my next trip and spreading the word out to book the tour with Intrepid. Cheers Sarang
