The tropical climate of Central America means conditions can be really hot and humid. Always carry plenty of water with you and stay hydrated, especially on walking tours.
Try to learn as many Spanish words as you can. Locals are very friendly, but also shy, so you'll need to make plenty of effort to break the ice. Attempting to communicate in Spanish is a great way of showing you care.

We really enjoyed our first Intrepid trip. The small group (9) worked well and transport was good. Our guide Gabriela was very knowledgeable and experienced and looked after us extremely well. We would have preferred more included activities and trips but those that we did have - a boat trip to Livingstone and the trip to Tikal - were excellent. Do take the opportunity to see Yaxha at sunset - very special.

This tour was a great way to spend under two weeks. Antigua was a visual treat enhanced by Volcan Fuego belching ash in the background and seeing in the New Year. Tikal and Chichen Itza are impressive testaments to the ingenuity of the ancient Mayans. Snorkelling at Caye Caulker was great, even for a slack swimmer with a life jacket. Rio Dulce / Livingston, cave tubing in Belize, Tulum and Playa del Carmen added to the variety.
