Want to do South East Asia justice? An Intrepid local leader will show you the tastiest street eats, the prettiest sunset spots, and the all-round coolest hidden gems. We rounded up four amazing leaders in the region to get their top tips and favourite trips.
Meet Naa from Thailand
Naa has worked for Intrepid Travel for 23 years – first as a day tour leader in Sukhothai, and now as a trip leader. She’s passionate about showing off Thailand’s culture (and food!) to her groups, and loves taking them to Intrepid’s hilltribe homestay and to lesser-known islands like Ko Yao.
Meet Bac from Vietnam
In Bac’s own words, “I think we are so lucky to have a rich culture, interesting history, diverse cuisine and hospitable people.” What more encouragement do you need? The Hanoi-based leader loves meeting adventurers from all over the world and showing them the beauty of Vietnam.
Meet Channa from Cambodia
Channa enjoys helping her Intrepid groups interact with local people and go beyond the tourist sites of Siem Reap and Phnom Penh. She thinks Cambodian people “are the strongest, most cheerful and most resilient in the world” and that Prahok Ktis (a minced pork dish) is a must-try.
Meet Nova from Indonesia
Nova is a big fan of adventurous hikes in Sumatra, the friendly people in Lombok, and the untouched nature of Flores. The Java-born leader loves showing how much more there is to Indonesia than Bali. His top tip? “Open your mind, break out of your comfort zone and keep smiling.”
