There are some long days of travel by bus. You will be pleased to know that public buses in Malaysia are quite comfortable. Stock up on snacks and drinks ready for the journeys.
You will need to carry your own luggage from some short walks between our transport and accommodation, and also on and off public transport including public buses, trains and ferries.
The conditions at your homestay will be more basic than in other places. Bathroom facilities are shared, and some will only have cold showers. Most only have fan cooling systems. However, the experience with a local family is a real highlight.
The climate in Malaysia is generally hot and humid, so be prepared for some balmy days no matter when you visit. It tends to be wetter and more humid from May to October, but the temperature remains fairly constant throughout the year.

This trip provides a good introduction to Peninsular Malaysia but anyone considering taking this trip should realise that Sabah and Sarawak in Borneo are also part of Malaysia and these are destinations with their own unique attractions. Also, it should be realised that the trip does not include all destinations in Peninsular Malaysia that could be of interest. One destination not included but which can easily be visited either before or after the trip are the Cameron Highlands. The island of Langkawi, which is also not included in the itinerary, is a popular destination for visitors to Malaysia. However, this trip provides a good introduction to the culture of Malaysia.
