Sample the best of old and new Europe on this charming journey through Scandinavia and the Baltic States.
It’s fortunate that geography placed Scandinavia and the Baltic States so close together. Nowhere else in Europe can you travel so quickly from the old to the new. From the storybook towers and goblin-haunted forests in Latvia and Estonia to eco-cities, bike culture and minimalism in Denmark, Sweden and Finland. It’s classic Old and New Europe, side by side. And this 22-day tour has been designed to showcase the best of both. Starting in Helsinki, we’ll wind our way through old centres like Talinn, Riga and Vilnius before moving through Poland, Germany and Denmark on our way to the dark and windswept waters of the Norwegian Fjordlands.
With its perfectly preserved medieval wall and watchtowers, Tallinn's quaint Old Town is a great place to explore on foot
Aukstaitija National Park offers unique opportunities for both activity and relaxation. Canoe across pristine lakes, indulge in home-cooked meals and cleanse yourself in a traditional sauna
Warsaw's Uprising Museum offers thought-provoking insight into the 1944 Polish resistance against Nazi Germany
Explore Copenhagen like a local and hop on a bike. There is no better way to see the major sites, as well as explore hidden corners of this beautiful city
Don't miss Gothenburg's Haga district, with its picturesque wooden houses and the iconic Skansen Kronan, as well as laid-back Langgatan street
The areas visited on this trip can be very cold at night throughout the year, especially at the start and end of the season. Please bring appropriate clothing for adverse weather conditions, including base layers, hat, gloves, scarf, coat and anything else that you think may be applicable.
As accommodation on this trip is twin share, single travellers will share a room with another traveller of the same sex. This trip is a great opportunity to get to know other like-minded people, so embrace it while you can. However, if you’d prefer not to share, a single room supplement is available at an additional charge. Please ask your travel consultant for more details. Also, hotels in Europe often don't have double beds, but rather two single beds that can be pushed together/apart. In some locations our accommodation has shared bathroom facilities, and guesthouses often have rooms of different shapes, sizes and standards.
This trip is designed to give you a fair amount of free time so you can explore each destination at your own pace. We will, however, take you on regular orientation walks, so you'll be on your feet quite a lot. While this may be tiring for some, it’s the best way to get your head around a place and to set yourself up for further discoveries. Please note that on this trip there will not be much time in Norway's capital Oslo. If you would like to explore the city in depth please consider adding one or more additional nights at the end.
This trip involves some long journeys via bus and train (sometimes up to 12 hours). Although this can be a bit tiresome, it's a great way to sit back, relax and take in the passing scenery.
As this is a combination of 2 trips, your leader and the composition of your group may change in Berlin.
A single supplement is available on this trip.
In order for our local operator to be able to buy ferry tickets we need your passport details. Please advise these at least 6 weeks prior to the trip's departure.
You don't have a lot of time in Helsinki and Oslo at the start and the end of the trip respectively, so if you're keen to explore these spectacular cities in depth, we recommend you arrive a day or two before the start of the trip and/or extend your stay at the end.
Our Helsinki to Oslo trips score an average of 2.33 out of 5 based on 3 reviews in the last year.
This trip is a good introduction to the Baltics. The Baltics are much less crowded than many other European cities, and the outdoor days are a nice bonus. The trip moves at a very quick pace, so you cover a lot in a short time period, although there is not much time in some places. There is lots of public transport and walking with your bags, so pack lightly!
