Becky turns heads wherever she goes

Becky is the most conspicuous overland driver in East Africa – you tend to attract attention when you’re Kenya’s first female truck driver.

Being a woman in a traditionally male profession isn’t easy anywhere in the world, but in developing countries it can be even harder to break gender stereotypes. Growing up, Becky never dreamed she’d earn a living driving travellers around Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda in an overland truck. But don’t take it from us. Watch Becky’s story and let her tell you about her experience.

Meet Becky on our Kenya Women's Expedition

On our Women’s Expedition in Kenya, you can meet Becky for yourself – she’s the driver on this trip and a range of other Intrepid itineraries through East Africa. Outside the all-female crew, you’ll also have the chance to meet a range of local women – from entrepreneurs in Mwariki Village, to female park rangers at Mt Kenya and Maasai villagers in the Masai Mara.

Women's Expeditions

We believe that travel is for everyone – which is why we offer a range of different trip themes and styles. But sometimes, it takes a woman to get to the heart of a destination. Our range of Women’s Expeditions are doing just that: breaking down cultural barriers, visiting places that are off-limits to our regular mixed-gender groups, and fostering discussions between women of all walks of life.
