Is this trip right for you?

  • This trip is operated and run by our trusted partner, Adventure Tours Australia. You will be travelling with a mixture of both Adventure Tours Australia customers and Intrepid customers. Intrepid works closely with Adventure Tours Australia to ensure that all of our customers enjoy their time away.

  • Accommodation on this trip is a permanent camp, with a proper bed, linen and electricity all provided.

  • When travelling in Australia’s outback, temperatures can get very high, especially in summer, and sometimes below freezing at night. Have a think about what time of year suits you best to travel.

  • On some days of the trip, you’ll spend several hours driving through very sparse areas of Australia. Sit back and enjoy landscapes that you would miss in any other form of travel. Extra space can be tight, and conditions may feel a little cramped. Think of it as a great way to get to know your fellow travellers. The drive days can be long, but it’s as much about the journey as the destination, and half the fun is the camaraderie.

  • Our leaders are the classic do-it-all Aussie – they know the best spots to watch the sunset, can drive you to your next destination, take you on a guided hike or even whip up dinner for the group on some trips. While they won’t always do all these jobs on every trip, be aware they will be juggling many things on your tour and may have less time to spend with you. They will always be working hard to ensure you and your group have a fantastic time exploring Australia.

Welcome to the Red Centre! Start the day by visiting the 36 red rock domes of Kata Tjuta, getting up close to this ancient geological formation. Get to know the domes, dunes and gullies on a walk through Kata Tjuta. Afterwards, make your way to Uluru as the sun sets – watch as the colours of this sacred rock changes as dusk sets in. The perfect end to a remarkable day is awaiting you back at camp, as you enjoy a delicious meal with your small group and local leader under the stars. Spend the night in twin share permanent tents, with comfortable beds, linen, towels, lighting and cooling fans provided.

Special Information
The Anangu people have dissuaded visitors from climbing Uluru for decades; as traditional owners of the land they feel a deep responsibility for everyone who travels to the area. In 1998 we were among the first tour operators to stop climbing Uluru. The Intrepid Group are proud to be involved with local communities in Uluru and to have an ongoing commitment to providing employment for the Anangu people. You show respect when you visit Uluru, but walk with Anangu throughout the area and share their stories instead.
