Visit the mind-boggling Phong Nha and Thien Duong Caves. These labyrinthine systems were used to shelter civilians and win the war against the Americans
Spend a day in Hue, touring the city's sights on a motorbike, cruising down Perfume River and eating lunch at a serene nunnery
During this trip, there will be several long days of travelling and you'll be sitting on a bus for many hours at a time. However, road trips often have the best views, and most private buses feature wi-fi.
Two nights of this trip are spent on overnight sleeper trains with journeys of up to 12 hours. Although the conditions are basic and you'll be sharing a compartment with four to six people, this is the best way to maximise your time spent at various destinations.
This trip involves a lot of walking - on city walking tours, the hike in Da Bac and during included activities. While being on your feet can be a bit tiring, this is the best way to truly get under the skin of a place.
You'll be spending two nights in different homestays with a Vietnamese family. While the accommodation is shared and basic, this is a great opportunity to connect with the local people (and enjoy delicious home-cooked meals!)
Vietnam has an incredibly diverse climate influenced by both tropical monsoons and its range of altitudes and latitudes. Temperatures can vary from a brisk 4°C (39°F) in the northern mountains during winter to a sweltering and humid 36°C (97°F) in Ho Chi Minh City during the middle of the dry season. Vietnam is a beautiful country. Lots of water(I was very surprised) , granite and limestone mountains, crops and green as far as you can see. The people are very resourceful and inventive. They have a use for things that we would not even imagine. They make boats out of large shell casings that the Americans used in the Vietnam war. For food-they not only use the sweet potatoe grown in the ground, they also use the green tops as a vegetable. Some of the ways they catch fish- unbelievable ways with nets. Paradise Cave was unbelievable. You can not imagine the stalactites and stalagmites inside. It is a bit of a climb to find the entrance but totally worth it. Just rest every now and again. The food in Vietnam if really good -spring rolls, lovely fat prawns, lots of types of fish, morning glory with butter and garlic, pho, baguettes, carmelized meat in a clay pot, lots of local beer and try the egg coffee-delicious. Many beautiful places including Halong Bay, beaches in Nha Trang, gardens in Dalat, , lanterns and Ancient Town in Hoi An, waterways in the Mekong Delta, the Imperial Citadel in Hue, and the night market in Hanoi. It was very humid and hot the whole trip. Buy an old fashioned fan -you will use it a lot! Keep it handy in you backpack along with a hat. You will need it! Cotton Tshirts-not a good choice they will be wet by the end of the day and stick to your body! All in all it was an awesome wonderful trip with a great leader and a bunch of new friends! It is something I'll never forget.

The Best of Vietnam tour was just the right length and we got to see a lot of things. The Maps.Me App (offline mapping) we downloaded on our phone was invaluable when finding our own way around and back to our hotel.
