Becky is the most conspicuous overland driver in East Africa – you tend to attract attention when you’re Kenya’s first female truck driver.
Being a woman in a traditionally male profession isn’t easy anywhere in the world, but in developing countries it can be even harder to break gender stereotypes. Growing up, Becky never dreamed she’d earn a living driving travellers around Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda in an overland truck. But don’t take it from us. Watch Becky’s story and let her tell you about her experience.
Be Fair. Be Intrepid.
At Intrepid, we believe it’s diversity that makes us who we are. Whether that be the community of people who travel with us, our local leaders and staff that run our trips around the world, or the employees working in our offices – we know that our strength comes through our differences and the freedom to be ourselves. We’re committed to providing an environment that encourages people of all ages, physical abilities, cultures, races, religions, sexual orientations and genders to have the same opportunities to take a seat at the table. And with our goal to double the number of female leaders on our trips globally by 2020, we hope to be sharing many more positive stories like Becky's.
