And while travelling through Thailand earlier this year, I saw it in action. Season three of The White Lotus<\/em>, set in Ko Samui, was airing at the time, so it naturally came up during a pub crawl conversation. \u2018I booked this trip as soon as I saw the trailer,\u2019 a new friend shared. \u2018I just knew if I were watching it at home, I\u2019d want to be there.\u2019  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s set-jetting in a nutshell: seeing a beautiful location on screen and wanting to experience it in real life. If you\u2019re ready to step into real-life sets, here are some top set-jetting spots (movie metaphors and the occasional bad pun included) and some very Intrepid ways to get there.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Move through Matera with more grace than Bond<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

It’s not often a high-stakes car chase inspires envy, but that’s what a James Bond movie can do. Between the stunts and the suits, No Time To Die <\/em>spotlights Matera, a UNESCO-listed city in southern Italy<\/a>, as a must-visit destination. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Premium Puglia<\/a>, things move at a slower pace. Sip wine, stroll through the famous Sassi cave dwellings with a local guide and learn how this ancient city (dating back to the Palaeolithic period \u2013 long before Bond) became so iconic. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

(Sand)walk in Timothee Chalamet\u2019s footsteps in Jordan  <\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Shot for IMAX, Dune: Part One <\/em>and Dune: Part Two <\/em>make the most of their epic landscapes \u2013 and much of what fans see as Arrakis was filmed in Wadi Rum, a protected desert wilderness in Jordan<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Explore Jordan<\/a>, you\u2019ll meet the sheikh of a local Bedouin tribe and learn what life is really like in the desert. Dine on traditional zarb, sleep in a simple Bedouin camp and head out on a half-day jeep safari the next morning. The terrain\u2019s vast, the views are unreal and, thankfully, there are no giant sandworms. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cross Canada like Joel and Ellie<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Though set in the United States, much of The Last of Us<\/em> was filmed in Canada<\/a>. The post-apocalyptic backdrop of deserted cities and open roads? That\u2019s Alberta. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On screen, Joel and Ellie trek across America \u2013 from Boston to Wyoming \u2013 dodging infected humans and wrestling with moral dilemmas. You don\u2019t need to follow in their literal footsteps, but if a cross-country journey’s on your list, Canadian Rockies & Northern Lights<\/a> gives you the drama (minus the zombies) \u2013 all with the safety of a small group and an experienced leader. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Transform into someone new in Peru <\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

When a franchise hits its seventh film, it needs to step things up to keep momentum. And Transformers: Rise of the Beasts <\/em>did precisely that by choosing Peru<\/a> as the next place for the Autobots to roam. While the movie received mixed reviews, there\u2019s no denying that Machu Picchu makes the most captivating backdrop.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The film shows off Peru’s ancient landscapes, but there\u2019s plenty it doesn\u2019t capture too. On Classic Peru<\/a>, go beyond the screen with an experience you won\u2019t find in any franchise. Stop for lunch with the Huilloc community in the Sacred Valley and join in a welcome dance.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Make Poland not<\/strong> <\/em><\/strong>A Real Pain<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A Real Pain<\/em>, starring Jesse Eisenberg and Kieran Culkin, depicts everything a group tour shouldn\u2019t<\/em> be. Set on a heritage trip to Poland<\/a>, the cousins argue in front of strangers, miss train stops and make things awkward for everyone.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For a smoother ride, try Best of Central Europe<\/a>. Like the cousins, you\u2019ll visit a former concentration camp on a guided tour led by a local expert \u2013 a sobering and important part of the trip. But after that, things lighten up. You\u2019ll continue through the Tatra Mountains and Budapest, with plenty of train connections caught and no dinners ruined by passive-aggressive bickering or gross burps (fingers crossed).\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Forget Smell-O-Vision (it\u2019s a thing, look it up) \u2013 watching The Bear <\/em>makes you wish someone had invented a way to reach into a TV screen and grab the food. While Carmy’s restaurant is fictional, it was inspired by spots that do exist around Chicago.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Join a Chicago Food Experience Urban Adventure<\/a> to get your hands on the best Italian beef sandwich, as well as a deep-dish pizza. There\u2019ll be no shouting or stress, just really, really <\/em>good food, cousin. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Step into a K-cinema set in Seoul<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Parasite isn\u2019t your typical set-jetting film. Bong Joon-ho’s thriller is all about class division and capitalism; and it\u2019s largely shot inside, showing the disparity between the Park family\u2019s home and that of the Kim family. And yet, it put South Korea<\/a> on the big screen, becoming the first South Korean movie to win Best Picture at the Oscars. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Go to Seoul on South Korea Highlights<\/a>, where Parasite is set, and see the Demilitarised Zone (DMZ) \u2013 the most famous Korean divide of them all \u2013 with your local leader. And if that noodle dish from the movie\u2019s climax makes you salivate, you\u2019ll love the street food tour of the Gwangjang markets.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Channel your inner Luke Skywalker in Tunisia <\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

A galaxy far, far away? Not exactly. Filming for scenes set in Tatooine, the fictional desert planet where both Anakin and Luke Skywalker were born in Star Wars<\/em>, happened across Tunisia<\/a> \u2013 but mainly in the Sahara \u2013 and these spots still look as otherworldly as ever. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the Tunisia Expedition<\/a>, you\u2019ll explore the Sahara with local Amazigh guides and stay overnight in a desert camp. In Matmata, you\u2019ll visit underground homes built to beat the desert heat, recognisable as Luke\u2019s childhood home. You’ll even stop for lunch at a troglodyte restaurant, where scenes from Star Wars Episodes I<\/em>, II<\/em>, III <\/em>and VI <\/em>were filmed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Hobbiton is one of those places that seems too magical to be real \u2013 unless your TikTok is full of Hobbiton half-marathon videos (just me?). Seeing fans run in nylon cycling shorts has a way of positioning the Middle-earth village in the 21st<\/sup> century. Luckily, you don\u2019t need running shoes to visit the Shire. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Premium New Zealand North Island<\/a>, take a guided tour, look around the Hobbit holes and sip a drink at the Green Dragon Inn. Then, go beyond the movie set by exploring Tongariro National Park\u2019s volcanic landscapes and sipping your way around Waiheke Island\u2019s wineries.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n
