Markets open early, and they\u2019re filled with locals who are passionate about fresh produce and good meals. I strike up conversations with vendors, asking where they eat, what\u2019s in season and which dishes define their region. Often, they\u2019ll tip me off about a chef to watch or a hole-in-the-wall eatery I\u2019d otherwise miss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If I could build my perfect day of dishes from around the world, here\u2019s what you\u2019d find on my plate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Breakfast in Peru: Pan con chicharr\u00f3n de cerdo<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>My grandmother always said, &#8216;Breakfast is the most important meal of the day,&#8217; and I couldn\u2019t agree more. After gathering a few tips from the market, I\u2019ll sit down at a bustling cantina and skip the usual classics and order pan con chicharr\u00f3n de cerdo \u2013 crispy pork, sweet potato crisps, zesty salsa, maybe a little spiced mayo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is a breakfast that I crave weeks before arriving in <a href=\"\/peru\">Peru<\/a>. For me, it\u2019s the saltiness of the tender deep-fried pork that opens up my palate as a filling choice, but I can assure you that for seconds, black coffee to pair and we are ready to start the day.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Read more: <a href=\"\/adventures\/peru-street-food\/\">Our guide to Peru&#8217;s tastiest street food<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Lunch in Bavaria, Germany: Wei\u00dfwurst, sweet mustard and pretzels<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Lunch, for me, is a roaming feast \u2013 a series of small bites gathered from bakeries, wine bars, cafes and market stalls. It\u2019s about chasing new flavours, sharing dishes and lingering only when a great conversation and a good glass of wine calls for it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A midday stroll pairs perfectly with a sausage in the streets of Munich, <a href=\"\/germany\">Germany<\/a>, and my all-time favourite is a traditional wei\u00dfwurst<strong> <\/strong>(white sausage), sweet mustard and pretzel. It begins with meze like garlicky haydari, spicy ezme and stuffed dolma, followed by warm pastries or crisp sigara boregi. Mains feature tender kebabs or grilled fish, paired with pilaf, roasted vegetables and fresh salads. Rak\u0131, the anise-scented national drink, flows alongside lively conversation.
