It\u2019s a fitting place to chat with Intrepid leader Tu Vu. He\u2019s a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.intrepidtravel.com\/vietnam\/hanoi\">Hanoi <\/a>native,&nbsp; but with his cool, unflappable nature, he\u2019s right at home in all kinds of settings \u2013 busy and tranquil.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tu was a local guide in northern Vietnam for several years before joining Intrepid in 2021. Now, he gets to take visitors right across the country. \u2018The first time people visit Vietnam, they&#8217;re really surprised about the traffic! And sometimes there\u2019s culture shock,\u2019 he says. \u2018Then they\u2019re surprised about this pretty scenery and the culture too.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tu especially enjoys leading groups of international visitors. Seeing Vietnam through fresh eyes fuels his own curiosity. \u2018Every time new people come to Vietnam, they have questions about the history and the culture,\u2019 he says. \u2018\u2019I\u2019ll learn something new if I don\u2019t know the answer and have to find out what it is.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Leading Intrepid trips means Tu has the chance to explore regions further from home. One of his favourite spots is on the central coast. \u2018I love Hoi An,\u2019 he enthuses. \u2018I like to go there with my family, even when I\u2019m not working as a guide.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote alignright\"><blockquote><p>To help people get to know each other, the first thing is that you have to be open yourself.<\/p><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>As a passionate foodie, however, Tu says his hometown is very hard to beat. \u2018Wherever I go, all over the country, I find out about the local food, but Hanoi is really good, and there are so many choices.\u2019 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>So, what\u2019s Tu\u2019s favourite Vietnamese dish? Turns out it\u2019s a world-famous classic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u2018I think everyone knows it \u2013 it\u2019s pho. The beef one and pho ga \u2013 the chicken noodle soup \u2013 either is good.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Travelling in groups isn\u2019t always easy, but Tu has learned a few tricks in his time leading travellers across the varied,&nbsp; sometimes challenging, terrain of his country. He\u2019s known for his deadpan humour, but he also likes to share stories from his own life with the people he meets. \u2018To help people get to know each other, the first thing is that you have to be open yourself.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And, an experienced guide, Tu knows that different people have different styles of travel \u2013 and he\u2019s cool with that. \u2018Some people just want to stay together with people from the same country, and some just want to enjoy things by themselves,\u2019 he says. \u2018We\u2019ll ask them in private to make sure they\u2019re still enjoying the trip.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With a young family of his own and a demanding work schedule, it\u2019s not easy for Tu to travel too far from home right now. But in the long term, Tu has big international travel plans of his own. \u2018I really want to go to Switzerland. The scenery is really pretty,\u2019 he says. \u2018And I really want to go to <a href=\"\/china\">China <\/a>too \u2013 maybe do a foodie trip there.\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ready to learn more
