Intrepid traveller Ahmed El Sherif has been on 32 Intrepid trips \u2013 yep, 32! \u2013 with more planned over the next 12 months. We sat down to find out where he\u2019s been, where he\u2019s going and why he loves the Intrepid experience so much.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ahmed, tell us a bit about yourself.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I live in Cairo, Egypt, and I am 71 years old. I\u2019ve always loved seeing the world, even when I was a student. I\u2019m retired now and my kids have grown up, so I\u2019ve got more time for discovering other countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At first, I travelled on my own but I found it very boring \u2013 I like having someone to talk to. That\u2019s why I enjoy Intrepid trips so much; when you\u2019re getting around in a small group, it\u2019s easier to make those connections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You\u2019ve been on over 30 Intrepid trips. Why do you like travelling with us so much?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

My first trip with Intrepid was in 2011, when I went to Vietnam<\/a> and Cambodia<\/a>. I fell in love with Intrepid\u2019s style of travel \u2013 you get to see and do so much.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019ve toured around with other travel companies, but it\u2019s not the same; those trips tend to focus on the big cities and you don\u2019t really experience much of the local culture. But Intrepid is different \u2013 Intrepid people are my kind of people! In fact, I\u2019ve met most of my friends on Intrepid adventures. I never expected to make so many new friends after retirement. Making friends is actually the main reason I travel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tell us about some of your favourite destinations.<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

There are so many, and I\u2019ve been to lots of places more than once! Visiting a country like China<\/a> or Thailand<\/a> one time doesn\u2019t do it justice, because there\u2019s so much to see, learn and experience. (I\u2019ve been to both those countries five times.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I\u2019ve done Intrepid trips all over the world: the Philippines<\/a>, Japan<\/a>, South Korea<\/a>, Costa Rica<\/a>, Kenya<\/a>\u2026 I\u2019ve even done an Intrepid trip in my home country of Egypt<\/a>. Believe it or not, there were so many things I hadn\u2019t seen on that trip, and I\u2019ve lived here my whole life!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After the COVID lockdown lifted and borders reopened, my first adventure was to Croatia<\/a>. It was nice to be travelling again, and I was so happy to get those stamps in my passport. I feel free again! My next adventure will be to the Netherlands<\/a> in the summer next year \u2013 I can\u2019t wait.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What advice would you give to someone who wants to travel, but might feel nervous about doing so?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

My life motto is \u2018why not?\u2019 Travelling is one of the best things you can do. It\u2019s an opportunity to see new things, learn, eat some incredible food and \u2013 of course \u2013 meet new people. If you have the desire to get out and explore the world, I say do it!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After almost two years of not being able to travel due to the pandemic, it\u2019s really highlighted to me that we\u2019ll never get that time back, so it\u2019s important to make the most of every minute we have.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
