We’ve just been named Best for the World\u2122! This is an honour given to certified B Corp’s with top B Impact Assessment scores. Intrepid has been recognised in the governance category for our recent efforts to \u2018mission lock\u2019 our Constitution. Never heard of a mission lock? Don\u2019t stress: here\u2019s what it actually means. <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Becoming a certified B Corp is no easy feat<\/a>. It involves months of work, reams of (virtual) paperwork, and trawling through your entire way of working to find ways to do things better. Ways that will benefit people and the planet. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We became a certified B Corp<\/a> in 2018, and when we recertified last year, we worked even harder to make Intrepid better for the world. And it paid off; we upped our score from 82.7 to 91.2 \u2013 that means we\u2019ve increased our positive impact on people, communities and the planet by 10 per cent. Nice, hey?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here\u2019s something else that\u2019s pretty nice. Each year, B Lab, the team who certify B Corps around the globe, honours their Best for the World\u2122 B Corps. This distinction recognises B Corps that have achieved a score in the top five percent of one or more impact areas in their B Impact Assessment. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We scored in the top five per cent for Governance, which covers our overall mission, ethics, accountability and transparency. Our work in these areas mean we\u2019re using Intrepid as a force for good (which was our plan all along!). <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We were able to achieve this score by switching up our company Constitution \u2013 in B Corp-speak it\u2019s called a \u2018mission lock\u2019. A mission lock pretty much does what it says on the box: it locks in our mission as a for-purpose\/people\/planet organisation so we can\u2019t \u2013 and won\u2019t \u2013 get waylaid by pursuing profits. Essentially, it\u2019s a formal commitment to create value for all stakeholders (not just shareholders) and balance purpose and<\/em> profit in our decision making.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s an exciting time. Among the Best for the World\u2122, we\u2019re rubbing shoulders with over 70 other B Corps in the Australia and New Zealand region, like Australian Ethical<\/a>, KeepCup<\/a>, Hepburn Energy<\/a> and Who Gives A Crap<\/a>. That means that there are 70 other businesses in our region who are actively making change, putting their mission first, and striving to be part of a movement of better businesses. We know that this journey doesn’t have a final destination, but it’s important that we continue to take conscious steps forward. This mission lock, and this recognition, is another one of those steps, and we’re so proud of the team who are working furiously behind the scenes to keep pushing forward with our goals.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
