2. It has the oldest rainforest on the planet…<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Borneo rainforest has an estimated age of 130 million years, making it the oldest rainforest in the world.<\/p>\n

3. … but it’s under threat\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3>\n

While there is work being done to protect areas of Borneo, logging and land-clearing are considered to be the greatest threats to the nation\u2019s habitats and its wildlife.<\/p>\n

4. There\u2019s an exotic flower that smells like death<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The Rafflesia Arnoldii flower, that grows on Mount Kinabalu<\/strong>, smells like a rotten corpse. It\u2019s even been nicknamed the \u2018corpse flower\u2019.<\/p>\n

5. That’s also the biggest flower you’ll probably ever see<\/strong><\/h3>\n

While it stinks like rotting flesh, the Rafflesia Arnoldii has the title of being the biggest flower in the world.<\/p>\n

6. The island of Borneo is massive<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Borneo is the third largest island in the world, right behind Greenland<\/a> <\/strong>and New Guinea. If you know how big Germany<\/a> <\/strong>is, Borneo is twice the size.<\/p>\n

7. Hence why there\u2019s so many awesome types of plants<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Borneo probably has the highest diversity of flora in the world, boasting around 15,000 different species.<\/p>\n

8. Borneo is a true melting pot of cultures<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Borneo has a population of 16 million and is home to roughly 200 ethnicities. The locals \u2013 a term that covers all ethnicities \u2013 are known as Dayaks.<\/p>\n

9. Borneo is home to orangutans (but you probably already know this)<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The word orangutan translates to \u2018person of the forest\u2019 and they can only be found in the jungles of Borneo and Sumatra.<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

Horned frogs are native to Borneo. They have awesome horn-type things sticking out over their ears. Basically, they look like the devil but are harmless enough.<\/p>\n
