Intrepid has a new wave of family adventures coming in 2026 – perfect for young explorers ready to touch, taste and try their way into unforgettable memories.
Chances are, if you ask your kids about their most memorable travel experiences to date, they’ll tell you about the stuff they did, not just the stuff they saw. That’s the kind of thinking Intrepid brings to its family trips, and the newest trips and experiences for families are packed with hands-on activities in incredible places.
Learning Bollywood dance moves in India, helping coral grow in Costa Rica, baking Finnish scones or paddling down white water in Slovenia – it’s the stuff that sticks with them and inspires them to seek out meaningful adventures for the rest of their lives. Here’s what’s new for families at Intrepid in 2026.
1. Nurture a healthy coral ecosystem in Costa Rica
A fresh addition to Intrepid’s Best of Costa Rica Family Holiday takes you and the kids to Marino Ballena National Park – Central America’s first marine reserve. Ballena means whale in Spanish, and not only is this reserve a hot spot for humpback whales, a unique sandbar formation actually looks like a whale tale protruding into the ocean at low tide. These waters are rich with 17 varieties of coral, however it’s all under threat from intense bleaching due to rising water temperatures. During your visit, you’ll join a local conservation group for a hands-on coral restoration project, helping cut live coral from their breeding tanks and restore it so it can eventually be reintroduced into the ocean.

2. Help save the turtles in Bali
A new addition to the Bali Family Holiday with Teenagers caps off nearly a week of Indonesian adventures (bike rides, community visits, beach stops, snorkelling and more) with a visit to a turtle conservation centre. After possibly spotting turtles in the wild the day before, you’ll see how this organisation is working to eradicate the turtle trade and protect turtles in the region, and you might even get to meet some of the turtles currently in their care.
3. Do some crafts and cooking in northern Finland
A new addition to the Finland Family Holiday gives your family a cosy day of Scandinavian crafts and comfort. Visit a Finnish family at home in Rovaniemi, just south of the Arctic Circle, for a needle-felting workshop and a baking class where you’ll learn to make kampanisu (Finnish scones) and learn about Finnish history and tradition. You can also spend some time with the family animals, including their therapy sheep. Pack your slippers and that sweater Grandma made for you and leave a bit of room to bring home a serving of fresh hygge.

4. Camp under the stars in Botswana
Intrepid took all the adventure of a safari and stepped up the accommodation on the new Botswana Family Safari Comfort trip. Spend your days out scanning for animals and your nights in comfortable lodges for all but one night, which you’ll spend camping under the stars in a vast salt pan after visiting a colony of meerkats. You’ll also visit Victoria Falls, head out on game drives and visit a women-run basketweaving co-op.
5. Turn waste into art in the Galapagos
On the Galapagos Family Holiday, a brand-new experience brings a bit more meaning to your travels in this biodiverse wonderland. On Isla Santa Cruz, meet a local artist who collects discarded plastic and turns it into art, jewellery, toys and more. Kids get to try their hand at turning someone’s trash into their own treasure, while learning first-hand about the importance of protecting the planet’s natural places.
6. Chase waterfalls, jungle animals and volcanoes in Ecuador
There’s much more to Ecuador than the Galapagos! A new Ecuador Family Holiday lets you explore from the heights of Quito to the depths of the Amazon on a week-long adventure. Take a boat ride to your Amazon lodge in the rainforest and go searching for jungle critters by day and night and even visit a local animal rescue centre. Then, chase waterfalls in Banos and volcanoes in Cotopaxi National Park.

7. Go glamping in Greece
If your idea of a bad time involves dragging kids through the crowded Acropolis and the Parthenon, you’re in luck with Intrepid’s new Greece Family Holiday. The journey kicks off in Athens with a visit to the Hellenic Donkey Centre, where you can meet and groom the rescue donkeys in their care. From there, you’ll still get a good fix of historic highlights in Delphi and Olympia (site of the first Olympic Games) on your way to an eco-farm near Poros Island where you’ll spend three nights glamping, swimming, strolling, exploring and even learning how to cook your own spanakopita.
8. Zen out in Japan
If learning cursive isn’t hard enough, maybe get the kids trying their hand at calligraphy – in Japan. The Japan Highlights Family Holiday will include a new relaxing village stay in 2026. At Oshino Hakkai Village in the Fuji Five Lake region, head to a Buddhist temple for a meditation and calligraphy experience. Then learn how to cook your own hoto noodle soup and onigiri rice balls for dinner before settling into your minshuku (guesthouse) for the night to sleep on traditional Japanese floor futons.

9. Choose your own adventure in Slovenia
If you’ve got some teenagers with some energy to burn, Slovenia is calling. The new Slovenia Family Holiday with Teenagers is an active trip geared for older kids. From Ljubljana, head into the mountains to go white water rafting on the Soca River and hike through Triglav National Park to the Tolmin Gorges. Along the way, discerning teens will have plenty of free time to choose their own adventure, and Slovenia’s packed with it – paddleboarding, cycling, kayaking and more – all with other teens to explore with.
10. Bust some Bollywood moves in Northern India
A new Comfort trip in India takes families through India’s Golden Triangle in style. The India Golden Triangle Family Holiday Comfort trip starts and ends in Delhi and takes you to Agra by train to visit the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort. Then on to Karauli to spend the night in a former royal palace. In Jaipur, explore in the back of a Pink City Rickshaw, a women-run e-rickshaw company, and go big cat spotting in Jhalana Leopard Safari Park before heading out for a Bollywood dance class.

11. Take your time through Turkey
Intrepid now has three ways for families to explore Turkey, with the Turkey Family Holiday that takes you from Istanbul through Cappadocia to Antalya and the new Western Turkey Family Holiday that goes from Antalya back to Istanbul via Kas, Selcuk and Canakkale. Or if you really want to do it well, you can do both in the combined Best of Turkey Family Holiday. Throughout it all, there’s an opportunity to join a cooking class with a local women’s cooperative, learn the art of water marbling, spend a day sailing in the Mediterranean and visit the natural hot springs of Pamukkale.
