Alaska is almost more famous for what it doesn’t have. To a wi-fi addicted world it offers nature free from McDonalds, shopping centres, traffic jams, fads and fashions. It’s pretty much the reason they had to invent a word for ‘wilderness’.
And thanks to a northerly latitude, in the summer months locals and travellers get 20 darkness-free hours a day to hike in Wrangell-St Elias, bike trails in Tongass National Forrest, kayak the Inside Passage and…take killer Instagram shots. I feel like Alaska tourism board should get a 5% Instagram royalty, because the state’s pine-covered hills, rugged granite peaks and electric blue glaciers have inspired an entire movement of artistic expression: carefully filtered adventurousness. Need a reason to travel to America’s frozen north? Here are the best Alaskan Instagram pics going around.
