USA & Canada City Explorer Summary

Add to Shortlist

Days 1-2 Chicago

Chicago is known for its tall skyscrapers and vibrant energy, with a thriving blues music scene and miles of picturesque walking trails twisting along the banks of Lake Michigan. Visit the impressive Art Institute of Chicago, then wander in to Millennium Park to check out the cutting edge architecture and sculptures. The park's centrepiece is Anish Kapoor's Cloud Gate, a large, bean-shaped sculpture that gives off incredible reflections of the city.

Days 3-4 Toronto/Niagara Falls

Arrive in the cool, clean capital of Toronto. Head up to the iconic CN Tower for a sprawling view of the city and Lake Ontario, or hop on a bike to explore the urban streets. The next day, discover the astonishing Niagara Falls, one of the best-known waterfalls in the world. Be amazed by the rampaging waters from the decks, boats, vista points and trails around the lush national park.

Days 5-6 Montreal

Discover the French-inspired streets, swish gourmet eateries and lively local spirit of Montreal. Wander through spectacular gardens such as the Jardin Botanique de Montreal and visit grand, French-style churches.

Days 7-8 Boston

Follow the red brick path of the Freedom Trail and check out the historic sites in downtown Boston, from graveyards and churches to the Old State House. Bask in a city of grand architecture and an always-flourishing arts and academic culture. Stroll through the parks, or kick back with a pint of Guinness.

Days 9-10 New York

You know the skyline well, but there’s nothing like seeing those bright lights and looming towers in person. Times Square, Central Park, the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty – everywhere you look, there’s another cultural icon. Indulge in retail paradise in SoHo, scope out trendy eateries in Nolita or take the subway to one of the outer burroughs for a more bohemian side of the city.

Day 11 Philadelphia

Come for the Rocky Steps, stay for the history – Philadelphia rocks. Take some time to get acquainted with ‘The City of Brotherly Love’ before enjoying a walking tour of its historic sites, including the Liberty Bell, Benjamin Franklin’s house and Independence Hall.

Days 12-13 Washington DC

Swap the former capital for the current one and be amazed by the sheer amount of things to see and do among the whitewashed monuments of Washington, DC. Head out on foot and feel like you’re walking through the set of a political drama, taking in the White House, Capitol Building, Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial and the many museums in between.

Days 14-15 Charlotte

Downtown Charlotte is chock-full of financial centres, museums and quirky attractions like the NASCAR Hall of Fame. Greenery flourishes in this city, and a stroll through the picturesque Freedom Park is a rejuvenating way to while away the afternoon. For a taste of the more bohemian side of the city, head to the neighbourhood of NoDa and bask in an eclectic mix of live music and art, craft beer in hand.

Days 16-17 Atlanta

Often referred to as the ‘New York of the South’, Atlanta is big city with a wide range of parks, museums, restaurants and bars to explore. Enjoy some free time to check out the World of Coca Cola, CNN Center, the Martin Luther King Jr Historic Site, and the Margaret Mitchell House and Museum.

Day 18 Birmingham

Hop aboard a train and head further into Dixie, arriving in Birmingham just in time to check out one of the centres of the Civil Rights Movement.

Days 19-20 New Orleans

Take stock of the ‘Big Easy’, a jazzy, multicultural city that is pretty hard to pin down in one sentence. From the European-inspired French Quarter to the Cajun cuisine, this is one of the world’s most unique cities and a great place to end this exploration of the United States of America.
