Travel to Norway and discover the irresistible charm and eccentricity of Oslo. If arriving early, head to the National Gallery of Art to glimpse Edvard Munch's famous painting, The Scream, or discover a Viking past at one of Oslo's many museums. Visit nearby Holmenkollen for a short hike on the plateau and wander through the Ski Museum, which is housed inside the monumental Holmenkollen ski jump and explores more than 4,000 years of ski history.
Venture by train across the stunning countryside of the Fjell region. Arrive in Bergen, a quirky city with a host of things to see, ranging from churches and museums to galleries and brightly coloured houses.
Be captivated by the sight of crisp mountain peaks reflected in the glassy waters of Sognefjord on a boat trip. Pass through Naeroyfjord, named for the Norse god of seafarers and the sea. Fishing enthusiasts will love the opportunity to throw a line in, sit back and soak up the serenity.
Make tracks to the alpine playground of Lillehammer and wander through the Trollhaugen Open Air Museum. Perhaps hear tales of heroic feats at the Norwegian Olympic Museum, or conquer misty mountains on a hike.
Head to the lakeside village Mora, a laidback town that encapsulates the most Swedish of Swedish landscapes. Be charmed by tiny countryside villages with red log cottages, pine forests and rolling meadows, and admire the work of a meteorite that crashed into the Earth millions of years ago, forming what is today Lake Siljin. Mora is also the home of artist Anders Zorn and the world’s biggest cross-country ski race, the Vasaloppet. Perhaps take a leisurely boat trip across the lake, sink a line to partake in a little fishing or hike around the gentle rolling surrounds.
Absorb the timeless beauty of Stockholm, the ‘Venice of the North, on an orientation walk and check out the Vasa Museum. Perhaps sample galleries or nightclubs in trendy Sodermalm, head to the Skansen Open Air Museum or join a day trip to Uppsala.
Climb aboard a ferry to the Aland Islands and take some time out. Embark on a cycling sojourn through this pristine maritime area, and then board an overnight ferry to Finland.
Before the Scandinavia Explorer comes to an end, discover a wealth of historical sights and gastronomic wonders in Helsinki. Perhaps visit the Suomenlinna Sea Fortress, a World Heritage-listed site that was once an important point of defence for the city, or wile away those precious few holiday hours in Kaisaniemi Park.
Catch a ferry across the Gulf of Finland to Estonia's charming capital, Tallinn. While here, the impressive Kadriorg Palace and quaint Old Town are worth a visit, or perhaps take a more active approach on a guided city bike tour.
Country-hop once again, this time into Latvia. Discover how Riga is renowned for its welcoming locals and a fascinating art nouveau heritage. Pay a visit to the Latvian Ethnographic Open-Air Museum, haggle with vendors in the Central Market or learn about the country’s history at the Museum of Occupation.
Make tracks to the former Prussian capital of Klaipeda and take a day trip to the unique, World Heritage-listed Curonian Spit National Park, a playground for outdoor enthusiasts. If feeling adventurous, grab a bicycle and explore this exceptional region on two wheels.
Be wooed by the cosmopolitan charms of Lithuania's capital. See how each of the European powers who have occupied this city have left their unique impression. Visit Cathedral Square and see Gediminas Tower on a city walk. In free time, why not take a peek into the mysterious world of espionage at the KGB Museum.
Hike and canoe through dense forests and appreciate the serenity of this natural wonderland. Come across medieval villages and learn about Lithuania's ancient beekeeping industry. Perhaps take the opportunity to soak in a traditional sauna.
Travel to Poland and spend time learning about how Warsaw was rebuilt from rubble after World War II. Mosey about in the Old Town and delve further into history at the Warsaw Uprising Museum. While here, perhaps take an excursion through the gilded hallways of the Royal Castle.
Arrive in Germany and uncover the tumultuous past of Berlin. Perhaps gaze up at the symbolic Brandenburg Gate and end the adventure in one of the city’s modern bars or nightclubs.
