About Antarctica , Argentina

Crossing the Circle via Falklands & South Georgia - Sea Adventurer Summary

Add to Shortlist

Day 1 Arrival Day Ushuaia

A picturesque town at the end of the world, Ushuaia is the launching pad for many Antarctica trips and is also excellent for hiking and mountain-based activities.

Day 2 Embarkation Day Ushuaia

The beautiful Beagle Channel, which links Ushuaia with the Drake Passage, is particularly rich with birdlife - penguins, cormorants, petrels and albatross can all be seen here.

Day 3 At Sea

During the journey, our expedition team - which may include ornithologists, marine biologists, historians and other experts - will provide in-depth explanations of the history, geology and wildlife of the Antarctic region.

Days 4-5 Falkland Islands (Islas Malvinas)

The rugged Falkland Islands have a frontier atmosphere - especially at the largest British settlement, Port Stanley - and some fascinating flora and fauna.

Days 6-7 At Sea

Enter bona fide Antarctic waters when we cross the 'Antarctic Convergence' - the biological boundary dividing Antarctica from the rest of the southern seas

Days 8-11 South Georgia

South Georgia has a rich history of exploration and evidence of the old whaling and sealing days is still found throughout the island - plus a vast array of amazing creatures.

Days 12-13 At Sea

While at sea there are plenty of activities to pass the time: relax in the bar or spend time out on deck scanning the horizon for whales and other marine life.

Days 14-17 South Shetland Islands and Antarctic Peninsula

One of the last true wilderness areas left on earth, the Antarctic Penisula is largely unchanged since the early explorers first landed on its inhospitable shores.

Day 18 The Antarctic Circle

More than just an imaginary line at 66° 33’ S, crossing the Antarctic Circle is an impressive achievement - this magical part of the world is visited by very few people.

Days 19-20 Northbound Along the Peninsula

The coldest, windiest, driest and iciest continent, Antarctica is a land of spectacular scenery, epic adventure and some of the world's most iconic wildlife.

Days 21-22 Crossing the Drake Passage

Named for the famed English explorer Sir Frances Drake, the 800km-wide Drake Passage separates the northern tip of the Antarctic Peninsula from the bottom of South America.

Day 23 Disembark in Ushuaia

Ushuaia, affectionately known as 'fin del mundo' (end of the world) due to being the southern most city of the world, has a lot to offer. A relatively small city of 42,000 people, it is easy to find your way around. Av. San Martin and the surrounding streets is where you will find most hotels and tourist services. Here you can stroll along and visit the shops, museums and restaurants. From Av. San Martin the streets start to run uphill. From the top of these streets you will have a good view of the Beagle Channel. Another option if you arrive early is a visit to Tierra del Fuego National Park, which is located 11km (7 miles) west of the city.
