Day 1 San Francisco

Soak up views of stunning San Francisco bay - this colourful, multicultural city will truly capture your imagination. Perhaps arrive early to investigate the legendary Alcatraz.

Day 2 Mendocino

The West Coast adventure heads north along the Californian coastline to eclectic Mendocino. Sublime ocean views and a vibrant arts scene make this a popular stopover.

Day 3 Redwood National Park

Travel down the Avenue of the Giants on the way to the old logging town of Eureka. In the Redwood National Park, hike past towering redwood trees, which are up to 2,000 years old and 90 m tall.

Day 4 Crater Lake National Park

Pass through the rugged landscape of Six Rivers National Forest. Dwarfed by a volcano, Crater Lake has a depth of nearly 600m - making it the second deepest lake in North America. Perhaps attend a ranger-led Crater Lake tour to gain an insight into the creation of this unique phenomenon.

Day 5 Oregon Dunes

Admire the massive Oregon Dunes that rise like a wave from the shores of the Pacific Ocean. Those feeling adventurous may want to jump in a dune buggy and explore the area.

Day 6 Silver Falls State Park

Visit the industrious Eugene, a major centre for lumber and wood products. Stop by Salem and travel onwards into Silver Falls State Park. Choose from a variety of hikes among forested canyons to some of Silver Falls' 10 waterfalls.

Day 7 Mt St Helens

Drive through Portland to Mt St Helens, an active volcano that erupted in 1980, blanketing the surrounding hillside in lava that eventually hardened to form the dramatic terrain now visible today.

Day 8 Mt Rainier/Seattle

Admire Mt Rainier - an active, glacier-encrusted volcano - en route to Seattle, the 'Emerald City'.

Day 9 Coeur d'Alene

Venture into Idaho and stop overnight in the picturesque town of Coeur d'Alene. Nestled on the stunning shores of an azure lake, Coeur d'Alene makes a delightful place for a stopover.

Days 10-11 Glacier National Park

Cross into north-west Montana and be rewarded with captivating scenery of sculpted mountains, dramatic glaciers and glassy lakes.

Day 12 Helena

Travel to Helena, known to some as the 'Queen City of the Rockies', and spend some time exploring this leafy gold rush town.

Days 13-14 Yellowstone National Park

Marvel at the geological curiosities that characterise Yellowstone - bubbling geysers, sulphuric springs and colourful, boiling mud. See Old Faithful and spot herds of roaming bison. Travel to Grand Teton and discover wildlife.

Day 15 Grand Teton National Park

Hike through incredible mountain vistas and keep an eye out for Teton’s most famous resident - the moose.

Day 16 Jackson Hole

Get active at Jackson Hole at the gateway to Grand Teton. Choose to spend free time mountain biking, hiking or rafting on the Snake River, or take the leisurely option and explore the quaint shops and streets of this picturesque resort town.

Day 17 Craters of the Moon National Monument

Visit Idaho Falls and explore the surreal Craters of the Moon National Monument, home to the continent's largest area of lava fields and cinder cones. Camp near Twin Falls.

Days 18-19 Snake River Canyon/Lake Tahoe

Admire the size of Snake River Canyon before journeying to Lake Tahoe, the largest alpine lake in North America.

Days 20-21 Yosemite National Park

Follow hiking trails to see redwood trees and the colossal granite monolith, El Capitan.

Day 22 San Francisco

Say farewell to the jam-packed Northern Rockies trip back in San Francisco. Perhaps head out to Chinatown or Fisherman's Wharf for a final group dinner.
