Day 1 Chicago/Springfield

Explore the 'Windy City', a thriving metropolis on the shores of Lake Michigan. Arrive early to climb the gigantic Willis Tower, sample deep-dish pizza and browse Chicago's excellent collection of modern art.

Day 2 St Louis

A city of culture and history, gaze up at the inspiring 'Gateway Arch' that dominates the St Louis skyline.

Day 3 Branson

Get a taste of vintage Americana in this classic Route 66 stopover. Hoe-down with some country music, stroll the '76 Strip' or munch on a cheeseburger in one of Branson's many diners.

Days 4-5 Oklahoma City

Cross into cowboy country and experience Oklahoma's eclectic mix of city gardens and urban spaces or take an optional visit to the National Cowboy and Western Heritage Museum.

Day 6 Amarillo

Stop by the official Route 66 museum before sitting down for meal at one of Amarillo's' sizzling steakhouses.

Days 7-8 Santa Fe

Visit New Mexico's historic and sophisticated capital - an energetic mix of cosmopolitan culture, uber-cool modern art and gourmet restaurants.

Day 9 Gallup

Swap modern art for ancient civilisations and make tracks to the Acoma Indian Reservation. Explore the ruins of 'Sky City' and learn about Native American culture in Gallup.

Days 10-11 Grand Canyon National Park

Take a worthy detour to the incredible Grand Canyon in Nevada. Choose to stroll the South Rim, take a scenic helicopter flight or simply watch the sun set over this extraordinary ecological marvel.

Days 12-13 Las Vegas

Cross the Hoover damn en route to the incongruous desert city of Las Vegas. See the cards fall on the Strip, indulge in a belly-bloating buffet or attend one of Las Vegas's famous shows.

Day 14 Los Angeles

Watch as Route 66 weaves into LA's frenzied freeway system and end the journey spotting surfers from Santa Monica Pier.
