Days 1-2 Atlanta/Nashville

Arrive in the urban curiosity of Atlanta, a rapidly modernising and expanding city that is busy enough to warrant the nickname ‘The Capital of the South’. Start the trip off in true southern style with a tour of the Jack Daniel’s Distillery before heading to Nashville – the home of country music.

Days 3-4 Memphis

Elvis fans rejoice, you ‘can’t help falling in love’ with Memphis on a trip to Graceland. But don’t worry, you don’t have to be a hound dog to appreciate the charm of this town – a stroll down the legendary Beale St, a visit to the National Civil Rights museum or a trip to Sun Studios should be enough to satisfy any taste.

Day 5 Clarksdale

Cruise down to Clarksdale, the birthplace of ‘The King’. Visit the store where Elvis bought his first guitar before continuing to the junction of highway 49 and 61 – better known as Robert Johnson's ‘Crossroads’.

Day 6 Natchez

Reach the mighty Mississippi and follow the road south along its banks to Natchez. A quintessential southern town, keep an eye out for the grand antebellum homes that adorn the historic district.

Day 7 Lafayette

Slide into the deep, deep south by entering the Mississippi Delta en route to Lafayette. Dance to Cajun and Zydeco rhythms at Angelle’s Whiskey River Landing, enjoy a cold beer on the riverfront or head to the Acadiana region for a night on the town.

Days 8-10 New Orleans

Explore Louisiana’s pulsating metropolis, a reinvigorated city where recent troubles have done nothing to stifle the raft of multicultural influences. Enjoy a delicious meal aboard an evening riverboat cruise before hitting one of The Big Easy's many jazz clubs, letting hair down on Bourbon St or simply taking in the French-inspired architecture of this much loved city.

Day 11 Birmingham

Make tracks to Alabama, where as Lynyrd Skynyrd proclaimed ‘the skies are so blue’. This was not always the case, however, and a visit to the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute and Museum provides a reminder of the progress made since the 1950s.

Day 12 Atlanta

Return to Atlanta and if there’s time, perhaps reflect on this deep south adventure with a meal at one of Atlanta’s many fine restaurants.
