American Gold Rush Summary

Add to Shortlist

Day 1 San Francisco

As a truly multicultural city, San Francisco has a wealth of cuisines, cultures, artistic events and eclectic scenes over every hill and around every corner.

Days 2-3 Yosemite National Park

If heaven descended to Earth, it would probably look like Yosemite. One of America's most popular national parks, its waterfalls, dramatic cliffs and wilderness areas are breathtaking.

Day 4 Cathedral Gorge State Park

Cathedral Gorge State Park is a rocky delight with its cave-like formations, slot canyons and weather-worn spires easily accessible from the walking trails.

Day 5 Zion National Park

Zion National Park showcases soaring canyons, impressive hiking trails and beautiful waterways, all coloured by the mesmerising pink-, red- and white-hued rocks that the park is famous for.

Day 6 Bryce Canyon National Park

A natural amphitheatre formed by centuries of erosion, Bryce Canyon National Park is filled with hoodoos - dramatic rock spires that glow red, orange and white in the glaring sun.

Days 7-8 Moab

Home to the incredible Canyonlands and Arches national parks, Moab is a small city in Utah that attracts hikers, mountain bikers and nature enthusiasts.

Day 9 Monument Valley

Red-hued sandstone buttes rise strikingly from the earth in Monument Valley, the setting of many a western and home to the Navajo Nation Reservation.

Day 10 Lake Powell/Western Ranch Camp

Controversially created in the 1960s, Lake Powell is now a popular holiday destination, consisting of 96 water-filled canyons, 3,150 km of shoreline and endless red-hued canyon walls.

Days 11-12 Grand Canyon

Words don't do justice to the Grand Canyon, a stunning 1.5 km deep gorge formed by over six million years of erosion from the Colorado River.

Days 13-14 Las Vegas

To witness the roll of the dice, the brightness of the lights and the general ostentatiousness of Las Vegas is a quintessential American experience.

Day 15 Los Angeles

Stars, surf, superficiality and sunshine - Los Angeles is a bold, sprawling city with a pronounced swagger and a surprising amount of charm.
